  • hello I'm new

well im 19 yrs old. i've done this diet before, i love it because it was the only diet that actually worked for me, lost 30 lbs. then i was put on medicine for epilepsy that made me gain about 50 lbs. but now that i am able to lose the weight from that i want to restart the diet. I heard atkins was good for kids with seizures so my doctor recommended that it might be a good diet choice. my only problem is that all i can really eat is MEAT. I'm about a week into induction and everything is meat meat meat. YUCK. I just came out of a vegetarian diet. oh well. At least i can still have my tofu

oh and i checked the scale this morning, i lost 5lbs so far.
even though i didnt exercise ..... ( im going to start) i just hate exercising with my asthma so bad, plus the heat triggers my seizures so all i can really do is light walks and yoga.

Here are some links to help you. It would be very helpful for you to get the 2002 DANDR book so you understand the program. You NEED to eat more than meat - you need vegetables also - you're 20 carbs per day (for induction purposes) come from vegetables. Make sure you are following the program the correct way - eat the proper foods, drink at least 64 ounces of clear water a day and do some form of exercise. Good luck to you.

        Re: hello I'm new

bloop, do be sure to read the links that imagood1 posted. If you are eating all meat, you WILL get bored and probably won't stay on your plan long.

The wonderful recipes she mentioned make ALL the difference between being happy and being miserable on Atkins.

Welcome, and the best of luck to you!

          Re: hello I'm new

Welcome to the board, bloop! And congrats on your loss so far! That's a great start.

But you really need to be eating veggies to balance out the diet. Besides tasting great and keeping you from being boring, they also help keep you from getting constipated which is no fun and has made many people quit the diet before they really give it a chance.

So eat those veggies, drink lots of water and get some exercise, even if it's just a slow walk around the block because every little bit helps.

          Good luck to you!

            Re: hello I'm new

thanks for the links imagood1, i have the book at home as well as a low carb cookbook and have printed out some recipes and induction meal plans. its just that i went from eating no meat at all to going into this diet which is mostly meat since meat is the lowest in carbs. I do need to eat more veggies im sure, i think i've become afraid of carbs which is not a good thing. I need to eat more well balanced but im always terrified i'll go over, usually im way under 20 carbs.
