  • Introducing myself

Hello! Just introducing myself. Today is my first day with the Atkins diet and my goals is to lose 10-15lbs and then maintain with a healthier lifestyle than I have engaged in previously. I'm one of those cases of having a fairly trim body all through high school, college and for most of my twenties. Now i'm 27 and all of a sudden, I can't eat and drink as much without consequence. My gameplan is to lose the new weight i've gained as quickly as possible, to motivate me to maintain it.

      Hi, NYCityGirl

      Welcome to ADBB!

I've just read your blog entry, and saw that you learned about Atkins through a roommate. I hope that you plan on learning as much as you can about the plan, so that you can do it effectively. The plan really does work, if you work the plan.

I saw the menu that you posted, and couldn't help noticing that you didn't eat any vegetables all day. This really isn't good for your health, and isn't part of the Atkins plan. (Not to mention, you need fiber to go "potty" ) I have put together some information for those who are just starting Atkins, that will help you. Here is the link: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-new-read.html

I'd also like to invite you to check out my upcoming Veggie Challenge. The link is at the bottom of my signature... click into in, and just give it a look. We'd be happy to have you, if you feel like accepting the challenge.

Either way, good luck to you!

        Hello to both of you!

To answer your questions, yes, I am planning to maintain a low carb, lean protein, high fruit and veggie diet when this induction phase is over. And my roommate did tell me to eat the approved vegetables, but I just wasn't in the mood yesterday! I will definitely have some servings today. Thank you for your input!! And what amazing results!!!! I'm very excited for the physical and health benefits of this program.

          Welcome to the board!

You will find Atkins to be the answer to your weight problem and it's very easy to maintain on it as long as you learn to skip the junk food. Good luck to you!

You need to eat your veggies first if you're not hungry -- then you can have everything else...but you have to eat veggies everyday. Many people think Atkins is just meat and cheese, nothing could be further from the truth.

Get the 2002 DANDR book and read it so you know what you are doing and why the plan works. Drink at least 64 ounces of pure water everyday -- soda, tea, coffee, etc doesn't count - just pure clear water counts.

            Good luck

OMG, you sound like me!! Welcome to the boards. I'm brand new here, too. So I see you're from NYC? I lived there for 6 months (I'm from down South) but I was there on an internship with Citigroup. I *LOVED* that place. Totally fell in love with it....and sadly haven't been back since 2005. :/

Still, I will make it up there one of these days.

We're also the same age (almost). I turn 27 in about 28 days and was also pretty trim/athletic through high school and college. But then I graduated and my job doesn't require walking around and I can't eat without consequence either. (I have a lot more to lose than you though.)

Good luck with your diet! I'm taking mine really seriously, because I want to lose this weight. In NYC, I was 145 and was a size 8. I'd like to get back to that, so hopefully this will help. I honestly think it will. Good luck!!!

On Atkins you can have decaf tea. However, it does not count towards your water intake.

Splenda is one of the sweeteners allowed. Sweeteners are limited to 3 packets per day.
