  • Hi there!

I started Atkins on April 19th, and have lost 7 lbs. so far! Yay!

I'm 28, married, a graduate student in California, and a former Peace Corps volunteer. I lead an active lifestyle SCUBA diving, surfing, volunteering, sailing, and rock climbing whenever I can. BUT, I am extremely susceptible to weight gain :-(

I usually eat pretty low-fat, low-cal but I wasn't losing anything and my weight has just been creeping up! So, I'm on Atikins to slim down! Atkins is just about the opposite of how I usually eat, so there are drawbacks (missing bread and brownies) and benefits (eating high fat, tasty foods - bacon!). I'm motivated and ready!
    Started 4/19/09: 5'2", 175 lbs., size 12
Goals: Size 8, ~145 lbs., feel better wearing a wetsuit

Welcome, SeaDana... it's nice to meet you.

So, do you plan on using Atkins for Life (Maintenance) after you reach your goal, or are you just using Atkins to slim down? I only ask, because it is likely that you may re-gain your weight if you change back to eating refined carbs. Just something to think about.

I've put together some info for those who are just starting the Atkins WOE (way of eating). There's lots of good information and links contained in it. Here is the link... give it a look, if you haven't seen it yet.

Hope to see you around the board.

Welcome, SeaDana. I love your photos. Your life looks like my dreams!

After the initial 2 week induction period, you can start adding in most of the foods you are missing. Check our recipe section and Linda's Low Carb Recipes. There are even legal brownie recipes!

Good luck, and congratulations on your great start!

Welcome to the board, Dana! And congrats on your loss!

I know what you mean about a wetsuit, they do act like a girdle. What I didn't like was breaking all my fingernails getting into and out of them!

          Good luck on your journey!
