  • Brand new newbie!

    Me:
27/f/WI!! Single mom of two "almost" tweenage boys. I yo-yo in weight so much I should have a trophy by now. 130-235-115-180.... and this is where I am now. I have minor problems with a nodule on my thyroid that may be causing it- biopsy came back clear and my levels have been steady so Im just sitting the storm out for now.
I love to travel and my next trip is oklahoma in June! I read alot (twilight anyone?) right now Im reading The Road. kinda dark- we'll see. I love music and I am obsessed with 80s music, and just bought the new Pet Shop Boys cd
    Diet and stuff:
For the past 6 weeks I have been counting calories and averaging about 96 miles a week on my stationary bike. I also love the biggest loser videos. I got from 178 to 160 but I wanted to try Atkins because like the rest of the world, I want to slim down NOW. I have a tendancy to set unrealistic goals (im going to lose 40 pounds this month?!) because it motivates me. I know it sounds silly. It helps me to push harder through my workouts, helps me stay away from the kids food, etc. If I told myself I would lose 5 pounds this month, then I would probably think its okay to eat that pizza because Ive been so good the past couple of days and hey... grab me another beer....one more... just put a straw in that pitcher....
    Atkins:
today was my second day. so far so good. I feel fine, and even went out to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings with my youngest- and drank water instead of my favorite hefenweisen. I had the blackened chicken salad modified to induction standards of course. My only problem right now is my coffee problem. I was drinking an insane amount of coffee () for the longest time. I got down to about 1 pot a day, and now with atkins- I really miss my coffee. No withdrawls, and I have my fingers crossed. The worst part about it is I use creamer- 5 carbs per tbs. I use alot. Now Im using a suger free french vanilla syrup which makes my coffee taste great- but its not the same. sigh.
k- thats enough. see you all on the induction boards!

instead of creamer or the syrup you can use cream. We changed from regular coffee to decaf after my husband had triple bypass surgery so I hadn't had any caffeine in years -- that helped when I first started Atkins. I drank Diet Rite soda which has no caffeine, no sodium and no calories - and is made with Splenda - but after a few days on induction I didn't want it anymore. I have tried to drink 3 more cans since January -- never have finished a can yet!

You might want to check the nutrition guide for Buffalo Wild Wings -- most commercial wings are made with flour - if you make them at home you can bake or fry the wings then use Franks Wing sauce, some butter and pepper to taste -- they are delicious -- make sure you make extra because your family will want them too! Buffalo Wild Wings Nutrition Facts, Calories, Fat, Protein, and Diet Information - Food Search Results - The Daily Plate Calorie Counter.

I have the new Pet Shop Boys cd also -- it's great!! My fav all time songs by them are What Have I Done To Deserve This (I'm a huge Dusty Springfield fan) and West End Girls.

I'm a stationary bike rider also -- no less than 15 miles and most days 20 miles -- I have a tv tray over the handlebars and put my laptop on top and watch video's while I'm riding - or I listen to music. I've figured out that 2 episodes of Moonlighting and I'm 20 miles down the road...lol!

    Good luck to you

      Welcome to the board, Sarah!

That's a lot of miles you're pedaling and it will make a big difference in how fast you lose weight so keep it up. And good luck with giving up the coffee. I had trouble with that too but it can be done!

eeek! <3 pet shop boys. West end girls is a classic, and I really love the new cd! My bike is super old, no tray. I have it infront of the tv, so I dvr my shows and when I sit to watch them its on my bike- otherwise I would never ride this much. I dont know if I can keep it up though, Im starting to feel the induction fluey thing and am too tired to do anything right now. I only rode for 30 minutes today. Hopefully I will be back on it once Im over this. Its nice to meet both of you! enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hi Sarah - I totally understand the coffee thing. I loved my vanilla-flavoured-sugar-filled-"creamer"-but that's in the past now, and I really don't miss it (NEVER would have believed that!) I did go thru a bit of caffeine withdrawl - 2 day major headache, but I got over it. I was having decaf with cream, but decided I'd rather use the carbs elsewhere most days, plus I wake up thirsty now, for water!! It's just one more change *for the better* Good Luck & welcome to the board.

Welcome Sarah! You're in good hands now that you're a member here. I have a question: what Biggest Loser videos are you referring to? Old DVD's of the NBC series (prior seasons?). I'm a sucker for weight loss success stories, so I'm curious...

SLAPSHOT: Videos: Biggest loser cardio max! <3 it because bob is awesome (and funny). I also do Jillians 30 day shred- which I can barely make it through. I enjoy doing jumping jacks as much as I enjoy TOM. 30 day shred will totally tear me apart but I can feel actual muscles in my arms instead of jello. the Cardio Max vids gave me rock hard quads in ONE week. I have Time Warner Cable, and with that we have free videos on demand- one channel is the excersize channel. I can watch free vids whenever- and they switch them up so you dont get bored. JULIE: the tension headaches were bad, so Im glad Im not the only one swimming that river. I had the shakes as well yesterday, until I vomited. Thats when I went to the docs- we have several confirmed hamthrax cases here so I got worried. Cool thing: we talked before atkins. When I went in to see him, the first thing he asked me was "how much coffee have you been drinking?", then gave me a cup o joe and told me not to worry about my co-pay! lol. Marliben: Hi, and thanks!!
