  • New Guy in New York

    Hello from NYC -

I started this at my sister's urging about two weeks ago, and this forum looks like it can help a lot -

I'm in my mid-40's, 270 lbs, hoping to get down into the low 200's.

I'm not too familiar with bulliten boards, but this seems like an honest group intent on meeting the same healthy goal.

I found my way here in search of war stories to see if my experiences are normal, and if there is a magic formula to success (I hope).

Hopefully I will come back and post positive results.

Weight loss isn't easy, but Atkins makes it hunger free and teaches you how to choose healthy foods for a lifetime if you follow the plan. If you do not yet have the book, your best first act as an Atkins follower is to read it. It will save you time and many questions. It is also a great motivator.

        Welcome to the board, Bill!

The magic is in how much better you will feel once you get the nasty carbs out of your system!

This is the best way to live that there is and if you stick to it, you will be a believer, too! So drink lots of water, get some exercise, read the 2002 edition of the book and eat your veggies!

        Good luck to you!

Re: New Guy in New York

hi and welcome Bill. You have a very smart sister -- give her a hug and tell her thank you for getting you to this point! We use the 2002 DANDR book (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution) and to understand and use the plan to your advantage I suggest you purchase a copy -- if you can't find one locally Amazon has them ... mine (with shipping) was under 10.00.

Read everything you can, ask all the questions 2 and 3 times that you need to ask. Join in and post as much as you can we can help support you if you allow us to!

Eat only foods on the acceptable foods list, drink at least 64 ounces of pure water daily (not soda, coffee, kool-aid) and start exercising today -- walk, run, skate, dance - just move!

Here are some links to help you start -- the recipes are wonderful and will help keep you on track. Don't eat the same thing over and over -- vary your veggies and meats...there is no reason to be bored with the food here ever!

Good luck to you -- I wish you much luck.
