    Hi,

    This is my introduction message.

    I am the parent of a teenager who is interested in trying the Atkins diet, primarily I have joined the board in order to help and support her but also to get feedback from other teens that will enable me to do just this.

    We are from the UK and currently based in Spain, lots of fresh fruit and veg available which helps.

      Good morning LucyAnya. My daughter is 17 and we've been doing Atkins together for 2 weeks now. She's around and about here somewhere, so feel free to have your daughter contact her if she wants a buddy. Her name is Marchioness10. It's been awesome for her..she just weighed in and showed a 16lb loss for 2 weeks!

      Congrats to your daughter and good luck on the weight loss.

        welcome lucyanna -- I hope you take Georgiana's advise and your daughter follows Dr. Pescatore's version of the Atkins plan for your daughter. As far as for you loosing weight, you ask: "what the diet has done regarding how the diet has effected your health, how you feel while you are on it, any medical opinions you have received from your Doctor etc. Good or Bad as I would really like an all round idea."

        I am probably more overweight that you are and I'm sure older but here is why has happened to me. I was diagnosed with uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes last summer with fasting blood sugar numbers close to 200 every morning and evening numbers of 150 - 175. Within a few weeks of starting Atkins my fasting numbers are near or just over 100 each morning -- my evening numbers run in the high 70's to middle 80's...quite a difference because I'm not having blood sugar spikes thanks to eating healthy food.

        I have lost almost 40 inches overall - mostly from my stomach where I carried more of the weight. I have also lost 30 pounds since January 5. I am older and on several medications (which I'm hoping to get off of soon) so my weight loss is slower than yours probably would be.

        When I started I could barely make it to the corner because I would be out of breath and tired. This past Saturday I walk/ran a 5K for the first time in my life. I also ride my stationary bike 15 to 20 miles daily. I use to drink 6 - 8 cans of Diet Rite soda daily and 1-1/2 to 2 pots of decaf coffee by myself daily -- now I have a maximum of 3 cups of decaf coffee and drink 150 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added).

        My endocrinologist and internist are both thrilled with the progress I've made and have changed my medication to a lower dosage once already - on June 2 I go back and am hoping it have them lowered or go off some. The person who suggested this WOE to me was my mother's oncologist after he had lost 35 pounds and felt great - I took his advise and I'm happy to say this is the best I've felt in years -- maybe ever in my life.
