  • New from WV

    Hello there,
My name is Fawn, I am married to Mark and I have 6 children ranging in ages 5-20 and 2 grandchildren ages 18 months (Kyle) and 2 months (Keira) didn't know that I could love these little ones so much I am currently 255 lbs. and want to weigh 175 lbs. I was about at goal on Phentramine but life got in the way and I gained all the weight back. I have a wonderful support system at home, which is wonderful. I started induction 3 days ago..and not sure what to expect. Would like to know when to expect to start to lose weight? When will my body go into Ketosis?..just general questions...I have been searching the board to find answers..but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help and support you have to offer.

    hi and welcome Fawn --
Everyone is different so it is hard to give you a definitive answer to your questions - but generally if you are following the plan as it's written, drinking at least 64 ounces of water daily and exercising you will be seeing weight loss and your body should go into Ketosis soon.

This isn't a fad diet or magic bullet - it takes dedication and patience to get to our goals and determination to stay there in maintenance. There are wonderful challenges you can join, you'll meet people and it's a way to make you accountable for the challenges. There are several specialty threads, over a certain age, specific medical conditions, etc. that may be helpful also. Look around, ask questions, post often to get the most out of the site. Good luck to you! If you need anything all you have to do is ask -- there is someone here round the clock!

Here are some links that will help get you started.

This is from the "Read before you start" post

Be sure to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
    Filtered water
    Mineral water
    Spring water
    Tap water

Additionally (after your 64 ounces daily), you can have the following:

Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
    Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carb content)
    Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine. Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.

      Hi Fawn,
If your breath and urine smells horrible, you are in ketosis. LOL Don't weigh yourself every day---it is normal to bounce up and down by several pounds in a day. If you can, wait till the end of the first two weeks to weigh in and don't forget to measure yourself. Sometimes you won't lose pounds but you will lose inches!

Eat your veggies, drink your water, and make sure you get enough fat in your diet. If you do this and start getting a little exercise you will be well on your way!

        Welcome to the board, Fawn!

I know what you mean about loving the little ones because I have a 1 year old granddaughter next door that I just adore!

Do you have the 2002 edition of the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? It's a must read and the best thing you can do because that's what we go by here on the board.

        Good luck to you!
