  • Today is day 1 of Induction for me!

Hi everyone! I am craving a Diet Coke so bad right now (or just caffeine in general & I'm getting a headache), but the food is great so far. I am so glad I found this board. I need to find some more ideas of foods to bring with me to work during the week. My husband and I are doing Atkins together and started today. I look forward to getting to know many of you!

Hi zappazoe -- welcome to ADBB!! there are plenty of ways to pack a lunch on the go. Rolled up lunchmeat - or add some cream cheese and roll, put a pickle slice in and roll it up. Chicken dipped in mayo. Salad w/ranch dressing is always easy. Bags of veggies, pork rinds for something crunchy. String cheese or other cheese (watch your portions). Here are induction menu's from Linda's Recipe site that you can make ahead and take with you Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Induction Menus

You really aren't craving the Diet Coke -- it is the caffeine that is bothering you. After a couple days you will be over this part (craving & headache) and you'll start feeling better than you have for a long time.

Make sure you drink at least 64 ounces of pure water daily -- nothing added - if you add tea, coffee, crystal light etc it doesn't count toward your water intake.

Start some form of exercise as soon as possible -- it will help tone your body, help you loose weight and is something to do when you want to eat!

Remember, men loose faster than women do - so when your husband looses more than you do don't get discouraged...stick with it you will get there. If you need anything just ask!

Here are some links & info that may help

This is from the "Read before you start" post

Be sure to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
    Filtered water
    Mineral water
    Spring water
    Tap water

Additionally (after your 64 ounces daily), you can have the following:

Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
    Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carb content)
    Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine. Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.

          Welcome to the board!

It's great that you have your dh doing Atkins with you because of the support you can give each other and the fact that you don't have to make separate meals. Good luck to both of you!

I do have a big Zappa poster beside the computer. Belongs to my husband. He is a big fan.

Hope things are progressing well with Atkins.
