  • Induction starts next monday... (260lb and I hate it)

    Hi everyone...

My name is Joseph, I'm 6ft 3in and my current weight is 260lb and I can't take it anymore.

So I'm reading as much as I can and planing ahead so I can start my induction next Monday (May 18th) and hopefully never look back.

I was on Atkins once like 8 years ago or so, but a couple weeks into the induction phase I got this weird chest tightness and got scared... which was a shame cause I had lost about 12lb.

Went to the doctor (a cardiologist) and didn't find anything ("all perfect" he said) so I don't know what to think but to give it another try, even more carefully this time. I'll get blood chemistry tests once a month (first one on may 16) to keep a look on cholesterol, thriglycerides, blood sugar and stuff like that...

It's gonna be a pain in the butt to make my own food and take it to work everyday, but I'm a good cook so I'll try to make it fun. Maybe I can enroll other people at the office... but that's probably too much to ask... I'm still trying to figure out how to avoid being picked at for eating "so much" meaty/fatty stuff...

Atkins is not very known here in Mexico, our food is delicious but most of it is also very hi-carb...

My goal weight is 180lb... I guess i'm a LONG way from there...

Welcome to the board, Joseph! And welcome back to Atkins!

I've had that tightness in the chest that you mentioned and it turned out to just be heartburn but when I started Atkins, it went away!

I know you have great food there and you shouldn't have any trouble giving up the carbs once you get started.

I also know you have some delicious veggies there because I had a bowl of soup that had the best veggies I've ever tasted in it but I don't speak Spanish and the waiter didn't speak English very well so I never did find out what it was.

Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress!

      Thanks for the warm welcome!

I wonder what that soup was... you should've slapped that waiter into speaking english

I read in the Induction guidelines on this site that olive oil should be used for dressing, not for cooking... why is that? and what should I use for cooking then? butter?

      Thanks again

        From "the book":

Many fats, especially certain oils, are essential to good nutrition. Olive oil is particularly valuable. All other vegetable oils are allowed, the best being canola, walnut, soybean, grapeseed, sesame, sunflower and safflower oils, especially if they are labeled "cold-pressed" or "expeller-
        pressed."
        Or butter, yes.
