  • Introduction

Hi, I'm Rachel. I'm 25 years old and I am 5'4, 270 pounds. I was overweight for my entire life, but after I had my first baby in January, it got too out of control. Before I was pregnant, Atkins worked for me. I'm back now and I've been doing Atkins for almost five days--and I already feel a lot better. My husband is going to be starting it too. We want to be able to be active and energetic for our daughter and for ourselves.

My problem is Coca-Cola. It is the only thing I miss and crave. Before Atkins, I drank around six cans a day (at 30 carbs a can). Diet Coke does not do the same thing for me. I don't like the taste. So far, I have not even had one sip of Coke, but I know it's my downfall. Anyone else a former cola addict?

Oh God yes, I used to suck down a 2-liter of Diet Coke in the morning and then maybe a couple cans during the day. I'd have to buy FIVE 2-LITERS at the store when I went, and the clerk would always make a smart remark about that much coke.

I weaned myself off the caffeine 2 cups at a time until I never needed it again, and it was the best decision of my life. I'm no longer addicted to that crap, and I feel SO MUCH BETTER.
    What I do:
Elliptical gym machine 1 hr Tue-Sun
At 320, switch to cycling on my Trek 500
    2 filtered containers water/day
    Daily salads/veggies

    Goals:

Stop needing High Blood Pressure meds - DONE!
    Workout in a XXXL shirt
    - DONE!
    Workout in a XXL shirt
    Workout in a XL shirt
    270 on the scales

Welcome! Coke a holic is an underestimate!!! Coke is what made me fat, not food! I use to drink a 2 liter a day, if not more. Im a complete sinner on the Atkins diet. By sinning I mean I was drinking a Coke Zero Cherry or Dt. Dr. Pepper cherry once a day; but now Im down to every other day. On Atkins I realize that aspertame is not a good idea and the science behind it I do understand; but I tried for a week not to have it and I about went loco. hahaha Im just breaking a habit Ive had since childhood. Those two drinks are the only diet soft drinks I like and Ive tried them all. If I see that my one drink every other day is slowing my weight loss I will quit, but it beats me drinking a 2 liter of coke! Im by no means saying go out and have a coke zero, Im simply saying that as bad as my addiction is; its the only way I can control my brain from not wanting a coke and completely jumping ship!! I plan by week 6 to completely stop drinking soft drinks all together. Baby Steps I say! lol But other than my every other day soft drink I do atkins by the book. Im loving the atkins approach and the results!

the best thing to do is cut all cola's out cold turkey -- IF you HAVE to have some type of soda try Diet Rite - it comes in a variety of flavors and is made with Splenda. I use to drink 6 - 8 cans and litre bottles of soda daily -- I changed to Diet Rite last summer when I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes - since I started Atkins in January I have TRIED to drink Diet Rite 2 - 3 times and have never been able to finish more than a couple sips.

Instead of caffeine change over to pure water -- (quit rolling your eyes!) it is better for you, doesn't contain any of the crap sodas have and won't make your joints hurt. You are suppose to be breaking your habits, not feeding them with something else.

I'm a diet pepsi fanatic right now. I'm on week 3 of induction and am having a rough time giving up both coffee and diet pepsi.....so I split it down the middle. One day I'll have a diet pepsi and the other day a mug of coffee. One or the other will have to go, but it's a toss up as to which one it will be.

I used to drink at least 2 litres of pop a day, plus 1/2 pot of coffee. Now I have 1 splenda-sweetened pop/day on the week-end only, and 1 or 2 cups decaf per day, if any at all.

I find if I avoid sweets (pop, splenda) altogether, I crave sweets less.
