My D14 and I are both on the diet as prescribed by our doctor. I've been on it since February and she just started a weeks ago.
I've lost about 30 lbs and she has lost 6. I don't really know how many lbs I've lost as our doctor doesn't focus on weight so much as visual results and lab results. I have gone from a size 14 to a size 10 jean. And this is about where I want to be except perhaps a bit more toned and lean.
We are both on Metformin for insulin resistance as well. This is a diabetes / pre-diabetes drug.
This is more of a challenge for my D. I have always been health food and whole food oriented, although I indulged in large quantities of carbs. My D is a regular teenage junk food addict. She is constantly asking when she can have doughnuts and spaghetti again. I am hoping that her results will outweigh her desire for these items...or that her taste buds will change in the process.
As I am reaching my goal weight, I am enthusiastic about getting more veggies and beans back into my diet. I am really not a meat eater. I recognize that I will probably never be able to consume grains including wheat and rice again.
I did find something very interesting since using the Atkins diet. I have had GERD and gas problems for years and treated them with both prescription and OTC pharm. About a week after going on the diet I noticed that I no longer needed the meds. A few weeks ago I had a piece of low carb bread and i felt fluish for about 24 hours. I now believe that I'm allergic to either wheat or gluten and I never would have known this without eliminating them from my diet. So, that's a bonus!
Nice to meet you all.
