Hi chaps, I'm Katy, I'm 22 from UK. I'm 5'3". I weigh 128lbs, and my goal is 105lbs.
I started Atkins induction 3 weeks ago, and I was ok until 7 days in. During the week on induction I was losing 300g a day! which is very good for me because I'm on the depo and fat nor water wants to budge! every morning I woke up, I stepped on the scales, I could feel myself getting lighter!
I'm a medical student and I had one of my final exams in gastroenterology 2 weeks ago, so I was going through a stressful patch when I decided to start this diet. But I was in two minds during that first week because when I am on the ward rounds, I see obese patients and I have to advise them to eat carbs to lose the fat(its what i'm taught to advise), I felt like a hypocrite everytime I put a bit of cheese or bacon in my mouth and on top of that my professor was talking about the risk of colorectal cancer and high meat consumption I freaked out and quit the diet (I think I was just panicing about passing my exam more than anything!)
Since then, I have been eating the ratios of what I have to advise my patients (thinking that it must work) and I've been gaining FAT on 1200 calories!! I've been eating oatmeal, berries, brown bread, brown pasta etc, and I feel disgusting, bloated and constipated because even at 100g of carbs a day, its too much for me!!
So I've been researching the science (and benefits) behind ketosis (something we are never taught at university!) and I am feeling extreamly satisfied! So much so, not only am I restarting induction tomorrow, but I am writing my thesis on the benefits of ketogenic diets next year! but before I round up my human guinea-pigs, I've got to try it on myself! I've given myself a full screening and check up, and after 3 months in, I'll also check my cholesterol levels again etc! I'm feeling very confident about it all. oh and on top of all that, whilst I was researching ketosis and Atkins, I came across a research paper that showed the risk of colorectal cancer was actually the highest in vegetarians!!!!!! (then the meat eaters and finally the lowest in pescatarians)
I'm celebrating with a sausage, an egg, 2 cherry tomatoes - grilled, and some mushrooms cooked in butter for breakfast tomorrow morning!
I'm on the verge of desperation to lose 23lbs! how great is it to lose fat whilst eating such indulgence!
I just wanted to thank you all because this is one of the best communities around!
