  • Hi!!! Starting tomorrow :D

    Hey all,

I'm crackin' up here, my weight's a bloody mess! Lol. Anyway, the word "Atkins" popped into my head today for some odd reason (was no doubt sulking over my muffin top.. more like a bloody full blown loaf now) and so I sat down at the PC and started surfing. Everything I tried researching regarding the Atkins led me to this website. So, seeing as it had a wealth of information and a community which seemed pretty nice, I thought I'd join

Well, I'll be starting the diet change tomorrow (already made a pig of myself with eleventybillion carbs today...lol), any tips etc are more than welcome.

Anyway, hello all... pleased to meet you

        Re: Hi!!! Starting tomorrow

welcome -- glad you found us! Here are some links I send newbies because they are what helped me when I first started. Get a copy of the 2002 DANDR book as soon as possible so you know what you are doing and why the plan works.

drink at least 64 ounces of water daily (pure water - nothing added!), start exercising today -- no excuses, exercise, eat only food on the acceptable food list. Give the plan 14 cheat free days - stay off the scales until the end of induction and you'll do fine!

        Good luck

Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t --- start today!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

Additionally (after your 64 ounces daily), you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
        Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
        Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.
