  • I can do this!

Hello, My name is Michelle "Grayson's Mom." I actually started atkins a couple of weeks ago... I lost 7 lbs the first week - then i started endulging in the atkins bars daily (2 net carbs) and didn't lose ANY weight the 2nd week... I learned my lesson! So i am starting over this week again!

I am so tired of being embarassed by my weight, having a difficult time finding clothes, tired and achey, worried that i am embarassing my family... I became a mother this year (9 mos ago) - I have decided that I need to put my health as a top priority. I want to be able to be a great mom, with lots of energy, and not embarrass my son by my weight. My first goal is only 9 more lbs away... but i have a total of 60 more pounds to lose. I would appreciate any encouragement!

    God bless!
    Michelle

Welcome. We have all felt as you do and many of us aren't at goal yet but I can tell you that I feel so much better on this WOE and even though it is coming off slowly, the fact is when I am working the WOE, this WOE works for me.

        Re: I can do this!

        Hi Michelle -

Welcome to ADBB – I’m glad you found us and have decided to change your life to a more healthy one. We have all been in the place you are today and are here to help with whatever you need. One of the best things you can do is purchase the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book (DANDR) – if you can’t find one locally www.half.com and www.Amazon.com have them pretty inexpensively.

There are plenty of challenges starting the first of the month - exercise challenges and non-exercise challenges as well - it's a great way to get involved, stay on track and meet great people who are all in the same boat you are. Congratulations on your new baby - do this for yourself, not for anyone else. I'm glad you are starting now, no time like the present to make your weight loss a reality!

Good luck on your journey. Here are links that will help get you started. Make sure you are eating induction recipes only until you are ready to move onto OWL.

        Rules of Induction:

        Induction Acceptable Foods List:

Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t find a way and start today!

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

Additionally (after your 64 ounces daily), you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
        Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
        Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.
        Carole

          Re: I can do this!

          Hi Michelle!

Our "numbers" are extremely similar. After 2 weeks, your cravings should be gone for good...if you don't cheat. After that, you won't really be tempted to cheat.

If you are absolutely going nuts for something sweet, try the Crystal Light mixes and freeze them into pops. Grape and Fruit Punch taste really sweet. After induction, use heavy cream on fruit or sometimes I just put a squirt of whipped cream in my mouth during TOM.

If you can stay motivated, you won't feel "so fat" for long. You will look healthier in your face first. Each little goal (I set mine at 6 lbs) I treat myself to a new shirt or pair of pants, even if it's from consignment. It makes me feel like a million bucks to try on a smaller size or to have my current size feel loose.

          You can do it!

Oh, and you are the only one embarrassed by what you look like. Your family loves you and remember that we are our own worst critic! Take your measurements and watch yourself shrink quicker than the pounds seem to come off....the beauty of protein and the fat burner that it is!

          Good Luck!~
          Sue
