  • A new lifestyle

Hello to all that read my intro. My name is Michelle and I am desperate to get back into a healthy lifestyle by losing the extra 80lbs I have racked up in the last 6 years. I am committed this time. I have to be. I am not getting any younger and the peer pressure of being overweight makes me cry. I am so depressed at times and I never want to go out because I have nothing to wear that looks good on me. I run into people who knew me when I was 140lbs and I am ashamed of what they must think. I need this to work. I need a change. i need to feel better. I want to run with my dogs and keep up with others.

Please help me if you see any posts from me or if you have any upside advice. I would appreciate any input that comes my way. Thank you to this site and all of you. I will keep you updated. Right now I am on day 7 of induction. I promised myself not to get on the damn scale for at least a month. God Bless and thank you for reading.(I am 43 incase it matters)

hi Michelle -- welcome to ADBB -- no need to feel ashamed here, we are all in the same boat, just varying degrees of that boat. First of all you made a great choice coming to ADBB and comitting to the plan. If you don't have a copy of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution check out half.com - they have cheap copies (under 5.00 with shipping).

Here are some links that may help get you started -- join some challenges, drink at least 64 ounces of pure water daily, start an exercise plan (anything from dancing to running - whatever fits your lifestyle) and work the plan -- as long as you do that you will loose weight.

    Good luck!

Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t find a way and start today!

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
    Filtered water
    Mineral water
    Spring water
    Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
    Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
    Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.

Nobody else is judging you as harshly as you do to yourself. Please don't hide at home. Go out and have some fun, no matter what your weight.

That said, I'm sure that very soon you'll start looking and feeling much better by eating this way.
