  • Hi...

    Hello.
Well...where do I start? um. I havent started the Atkins Diet quite yet. Im still deciding on if I should do the south beach diet.

But. I am a teen...who currently hates what I look like, how i feel, and what other people think when they see me. I havent weighed myself in a while. Mostly because im afraid of what I will see. But last time I did I was 250+.

    How did I get here?

I was on Atkins for a while. But I ended up falling away from it. I have no motivation. When I take a step back I note that I am homeschooled, so there is no reason to try an get in better health for the sake of classmates. I never go outside, so why should I try to get in shape.

The only thing I can even think of right now to get me started and going is my 'crush'. But as soon as I start I go on about how if he likes me the way I am then why should I change.

Oh how its fun to be a teen..right..NOT!!

As you can tell I am in a pickle. Lost without a map...yeah..

    Re: Hi...

hi and welcome to ADBB. Since you are a teen you should use the book Feed Your Kids Well: How to Help Your Child Lose Weight and Get Healthy
by Fred Pescatore. Dr Pescatore worked with Dr. Atkins and developed this plan for teens so you get enough of the nutrition you need for your age.

Even though you don't go outside and have no classmates there is a good reason to get into shape. Y O U .... look in the mirror, that person looking back at you needs to be healthy and needs you to start making that a reality today.

Check out the teen forum -- hope you meet some great people to help you along the way. Good luck on your journey.

Hi Dazzle and welcome to the board!

I was a fat teen too so I know how it feels but I also loved to walk and that helped me lose a lot of weight. I would suggest that you go out for a walk everyday. It doesn't have to be long or fast, just a nice stroll for awhile and you might find out just how nice it is to get out and see something different. You will probably end up feeling better about yourself. Walking is good for the body and the soul.

I hope you decide to do Atkins and remember, we are here to help. Good luck to you!

            Re: Hi...

hello dazzle! i'm new to this board, and just joined today.

I was 15 when I first started the atkins diet. I was 350 pounds, or at least thats when I stopped weighing myself. I can definetly say that this diet DOES work, and is the best when it comes to "low carb" diets. I reached my goal weight of 165 pounds, in about a year and a half. I made the mistake of going off the diet, and tried south beach, and weight watchers, and zone, best life and a few others.

None of these diets worked for me, if you read Dr. Atkins book, he will tell you why, its becasue our bodies cannot tolerate carbohydrates.

I have sinced gained back much of my weight after going off atkins, I am now at 280 pounds, but today is my first day back on atkins, and I plan to stick with it for life this time. the benefits of this diet are so great, its not worth eating som many carbs once you feel what it is like to be skinny. I would wish you luck, but luck runs out eventually, so I just hope you the best!

            peace

              Hi Dazzle,

Welcome. As you can see there are a lot of folks to help support you here. The best reason to lose is because deep down you want to feel good about yourself. Convincing yourself you are worth the effort can be tough sometimes, but the fact that you are here tells me you already know that you are worth making this happen.
