  • Second time's the charm

Hi, My name is Liz. I'm in Virginia Beach. I lost over 45# on Atkins 4-5 years ago and over this time I found it all again. In the meantime, I've tried WW several times and not had anywhere near the results I did on Atkins, and following the AWOL is so much easier. I'm 49 and would like to see 50 at a healthy goal weight. At this point I'm very sedentary, but I'm hoping to change that once I get back on track. I'm not sure which board to go to! I've got about 145# I'd like to lose, but my initial goal is just to having more energy. looking forward to getting back in the groove and the support I need
In two decades I've lost a total of 789 pounds. I should be hanging from a charm bracelet.

    Re: Second time's the charm

Hi Liz, welcome to ADBB. This board follows the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book and frowns on the bars shakes and fake foods offered by the Atkins corporation. The group here is knowledgeable and supportive. I am the same age as you are and it isn't a quick process for us but I am slowly losing. Definitely start exercising from day one. Even if it is a walk around the block, do something today you haven't been doing and build on that. Make sure you eat the required veggies and drink lots of pure water. Those are two things that many people seem to trip up with early on. We have a Second Time Around Club and also some great Induction "stickies" to lay everyhting out for you in case you have forgotten. You will also find that this is an active board. Feel free to fire away with any questions or post a menu if you are unsure at any point.

    HW (this time) 248
    GOAL ONE 228
    (take 2)
    GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
    GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
    FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

      Welcome to the board, Liz!

Don't be discouraged by the amount of weight you have to lose, just take it one day at a time and it will happen!

Check out the Century Club for support from people who have a lot to lose because they have been there and are a lot of help in sticking to the plan.

Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress!

        Re: Second time's the charm

hi and welcome back to Atkins!! I hope you will use this forum to help educate yourself and meet new people who are in the same boat as you. I am 51 and slowly becoming a healthier and happier person again!

We have great links that will help get you started - get a copy of the 2002 DANDR book if you don't already have one it explains everything in such detail. The more you know the easier this plan is for you to stick with and be successful doing.

Here are some links to help get you started! Hope to see you around, the new challenges just started yesterday - check them out and join a few!!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
        Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
        Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases
