  • Its time to do this the right way!

Hello, my name is bradly, i'm 23, and I am new to this forum, but very familiar with atkins.

I began the Atkins way when I was 15, and lost about 220 lbs altogether, in about two years. I stopped weighing myself when I was 350, since the scale I owned stopped there, and a family member told me about atkins.

I think it was my young age, and the motivation and determinantion that comes with youth that kept me on track so well my first time around. I did not want to be "that fat kid" for the rest of highschool. I excercised daily, had tons of energy, and great flexibilty, something I never had in my life before atkins. I followed the diet religiously for about 3 years. I maintained my goal weight of 150 pounds, which varied between 150-165 for a year after I reached the goal.

I then went off atkins, mostly due to my giving in to rumors that the diet was unhealthy, and the scrutiny from my family/freinds, taht I was "too thin" and the diet was not good for me. looking back, I think I knew that they were wrong, and just wanted to give in to my carb addiction, thinking that I was thin enough now and able to eat like "everyone else".

Now i'm 23, and have yo-yo'd and ballooned my way back to 280 pounds. I have become sedintary, and lazy, and am ready to begin the lifestyle that changed my life 8 years ago. I'm motivated to do things right this time, and am happy i have found this forum, where i can get support from others that know what I'm going through, because those around me are not very supportive of the atkins way of life.

My biggest vices are caffiene, (coffee) and going overboard with cheese, which seems to keep me from losing weight when i eat too much.

I also have a hard time with excercise these day, since the hour of cardio everyday I used to do is just not tangible at my current weight. I am starting today by going for a walk for 45 minutes, which doesnt really feel like enough, but i have to start small, becasue i have had many failed attempts in the past few years, by biting off more than I can chew. thanks for hearing me out, and I look forward to getting to know more of you better!

Hi Bradly, sounds like you have a realistic outlook on this and you are very wise to start with small exercise goals and work your way up. This has been a wonderful support board for me and hopefully you will find it to be the same for you. I find it keeps me accountable and there are a terrific group of moderators here that have the answer to any and all questions you may have. You did it before, you can do it again.

    GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
    FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

hi Bradly - welcome back to the Atkins WOE - you know how to do it so now you just need to start.

I agree that you need to start small with your exercise - I could barely huff and puff my way to the corner and back when I first started but I now walk several miles at a time and ride 25 miles daily on a stationary bike (and I'm 51) so you can work your way back to good health.

Too bad you allowed your friends and family talk you into stopping the first time - don't let it happen again! Each time you try to loose weight it is harder but if you are determined you will be able to get to your goal!

Check out the different forums and challenges - it's a great way to meet people and stay committed to yourself and the plan.

hi lacie, thanks for checking out my page . This board is helping me soo much, and you're right, I am lucky to have found it. I am finding these first few days so much easier with all the encouragement people are leaving me on here. Its great to look at all the tickers, and the before and after forum is great thinspiration, it give me lots to look forward to.

The last go I had with atkins I tried to do a lower fat /high protein version, which I like to call "Bradkins", and that did not work at all. :P I'm going by the book this time, and walking for now. I already feel lots of energy, and its only been 3 days.

Thanks again, and have a wonderful day!
