  • New to Atkins

Hi! I came to the ADBB looking for support and inspiration. After the birth of my son, I tried to lose weight on my own, but being a new SAHM, the easy access to food was too much for me. I tried Weight Watchers, and lost 20+ pounds, but it was too restrictive and I hated counting the points. I felt very food deprived. I'm now creeping back to my all-time high weight (non-pregnancy) and know it's time to do something about it.

I officially start the Atkins diet tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes!

I looked at the before and after photos posted on here...and you all are so amazing! I have found what I've been looking for....inspiration!!

    Re: New to Atkins

Welcome Srah. This is an information and support filled site. If you have not yet picked up a copy of Dr. A's 2002 book, please do. It is very motivating and will answer all the questions that are likely to come up. Most of us love the way we feel on this Way Of Eating (WOE) and as soon as your body detoxes from the carbs you will feel terrific too. This site uses Dr Atkins New DIet Revolution as its guide. The plan emphasizes real food, exercise and water consumption. I have kept 70 pounds off for about 4 years now and am working on the rest.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

      Welcome to the board!

You did the right thing coming here. The first time I did Atkins, I did it all alone. I really need the extra support that comes from a community of people that understand this way of life and the issues and struggles involved in being over weight and unable to get that weight off.

The first few days is the hardest as your body detoxing from all the sugar and carbs, after that things are so much easier.

I've never been able to stick to a low cal or low fat diet. I tried everything and always felt like I was being starved to death. The feeling of hunger and being deprived kept me from every being able to do those diets with any really commitment. Atkins is soooooooo much easier to maintain and live with.
      Mini goals:
      1st - 209 lbs - Smaller then my husband!
2nd - 202 lbs - BMI no longer considered obese
3rd - 199 lbs - No longer have to say 2 in my weight!
5th - 168 lbs - BMI no longer considered overweight

        Welcome to the board, Sarah!

You've come to the right place for support and inspiration. The people here are great and we have all been where you are now. So read the forums, eat your veggies, drink lots of water and look out for those nasty carbs. Good luck to you!
