  • Hello again from Michigan

Hello. I last posted on May 12, 4 days into induction. I just wanted to give an update. 25 days now. I have lost 13 pounds. I guess it is working. I love this diet. Every once and awhile I crave carbs, but it is only for a short time. I usually eat some protein and feel better. I have noticed I only crave carbs when I need to eat. Is this typical? Went to my favorite store yesterday, tried on my usual 18, and it was too big. Not yet big enough to say I am a 16, put I think 5-8 more pounds.

Induction flu lasted a full 2 weeks. Ouch. All done now. I just told my husband last night on the phone (he is in Turkey, on business), that I truly believe I was addicted to carbs. I told him, "Carbs were my drug of choice." He just said "wow".

Interesting fact. By introducing Macadamia nuts (my favorite Nuts), I am no longer constipated. Does adding nuts usually do this?

Anyway, this is the only diet I have ever been on that works. BTW, I found this greek yogurt that is super low in carbs. I miss my yogurt. Anyway, beginning to ramble. Thanks for the support.

    Re: Hello again from Michigan

Glad you made it through induction -- nuts aren't allowed until Rung 3 of OWL -- so unless you have skipped Rungs 1 and 2 you shouldn't be eating nuts yet.

For constipation you can use flax or phllyum - make sure you are drinking enough water -- 64 ounces of PURE water (nothing added) is the minimum you should be drinking daily. If you are drinking and eating the shakes and bars those aren't "legal" either.

Make sure you are only eating foods on the acceptable food list. What exercise are you doing? Here are some links to refresh your memory and that may be helpful. Good luck on your journey.

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
    Filtered water
    Mineral water
    Spring water
    Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
    Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
    Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases
