  • Hi!

Hi my name is Tracy and I started induction a week ago. I had tried to do the Atkins diet a few years ago but I just didn't have enough motivation to stick with it and never got out of the induction phase.... plus I didn't follow it correctly.

I have TOTAL motivation now I have lost 9 pounds in 1 week.. I didn't even think that was possible! I have been reading these forums since I started induction and decided to register. This seems like a great support forum and I think it can really help me get on to living a healthy life.

      Re: Hi!

hi and welcome Tracy -- I'm happy you are following the plan correctly this time - you will have great success if you follow it the way Dr Atkins designed it. Good luck to you -- if you haven't seen the recipe sites here are links to them -- make sure you get enough carbs in each day and that most of the carbs are from veggies. Drink your water and exercise -- it's really an easy way to live!

Here is some information that may help -- good luck to you!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
      Filtered water
      Mineral water
      Spring water
      Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
      Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
      Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

            Re: Hi!

That's a great start. Glad you are doing so well. Just a reminder though--most folks experience a slow down after Induction. Some even stop for awhile before the losses start up again. If you know this going into it, you will recognize it as normal and not assume the plan is failing. Knowing what to expect helps get you through the lag time without panic. If you don't yet have the book, do get a copy and read it. Not only is it inspiring, but it also explains the whys and hows to set yourself up for a thin lifetime. Too many people fail to realize the in between steps are what will make you a lifer and not a repeater.
