  • Starting Atkins yet again

Hi Everyone!!! My name is Holly. I am starting Atkins yet again. My last stretch with Atkins lasted 2 weeks. I am shooting for at least a month this time. I am a carb a holic, but I know that no carb or low carb diet is the only way I can lose weight. I currently weight 240 and would like to get below 200 for my first goal. I look forward to chatting with you all.

    Re: Starting Atkins yet again

Welcome. I hope you will like it here. Post and share stuff. We like and need some company here.
Although I agree changing your way of eating with Atkins can be daunting and that it is good to take one week at a time, I think it is possible that you can make this a long term eating plan. I've been doing Atkins for about 19 months. I still love it.

welcome back -- hope you give this plan a fighting chance this time. Variety is the key to staying on plan with Atkins -- you can't eat the same thing over and over, you'll get bored and feel it doesn't work - it does work but YOU have to work at it also.

Here are some links to help get you started. Join in some challenges and journal your thoughts -- it's a great way to meet people and get the encouragement to keep going.

      Good luck

Make sure you are eating induction recipes only until you are ready to move onto OWL.
Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t find a way and start today! Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
      Filtered water
      Mineral water
      Spring water
      Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
      Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
      Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

        Hi Holly! Welcome

The first two weeks are probably the worst, so if you can get past those, you're golden. I'm on day 10 and feel AMAZING. Truly.

Log on often, come here for support, motivation, recipes (a must!). I can truly say that this would be a far more difficult journey without ADBB.

        Best of luck!

          Re: Starting Atkins yet again

Hi Holly, I have been low carbing for several years now. One thing I have learned is that this isn't a weight loss tool, a temporary detour. For long term success, it has to be permanent lifestyle choice.

            Welcome to the board, Holly!

You will find that after awhile on the diet, you lose your taste for things you liked before so give it a chance and it will work for you. Good luck!
