  • hello!!!!

    well after lurking on here for a few weeks i have finally signed up!
    Started the atkins diet 07.05.09 and lost a big 13lbs in the first 2 weeks.
    The last 2 weeks have however been slower!! and 4 weeks into it my total weight loss is 13.5lbs! whoops. Not sure why really but am goingt o stick at it. Ive lost 2,5 inches from my waist so thats a bonus.

    A bit about me....I'm 27, mum to a 1year old. 5ft 7 and start weight was 170...now at 156.5. Would ideally like to be 136lbs, but am prepared to settle for 140 if i start looking a little skinny.

    Hope that signing up here gives me the motivation to stick at it.

    20lbs to goal weight!!

    Mini goal #1 - 196 - 10% of the old me gone Met 6/30/09!!!
    Mini goal #2 - 185 - BMI - no longer obese Met 12/23/09!!!
    Mini goal #3 - 174 - 20% of the old me gone
    Mini goal #4 - 154 - BMI no longer overweight

      Welcome to the board!

      I would suggest that you move up to rung 1 because when your loss slows down, adding more veggies helps to get it started again. I'm not sure why but I think it's because your body has adjusted to what you're eating now and just needs a little change. It worked for me!

      Also you don't have a lot to lose so those last 10 or 15 lbs. take longer to get rid of, so just be patient and it will happen.

        hi and welcome -- your weight will slow as you continue through the plan - you won't loose 13 pounds every two weeks you are on the plan. Continue to follow the plan as it's written, stay away from the Atkins shakes and bars - they aren't allowed while following the 2002 DANDR edition of the book.

        Drink at least 64 ounces of water daily - pure water, ice is the only thing you can add and still count it as "water" -- crystal light, tea, coffee -- these don't count because they aren't pure water.

        Start exercising immediately - Dr Atkins said it wasn't a choice, it's mandatory. Good luck to you.

          thanks for the welcome peeps!!

          right off to work out what rung one is??! i must admit i have never made it past induction before whilst on the atkins so i think i need to read a little more now!! find out what it is im supposed to be eating now.

          thanks for all the links.

          oooo exercise!! see i used to be very fit until my daughter arrived and i have failed to find the motivation since. Tonight i will go for a run!!!

            Rungs are the "steps" of Atkins...consider the word rung as the steps on a ladder -- each rung is a different step up the Atkins ladder until you get to pre-maintenance and then maintanance.

            Once you get through your 2 week induction you can either stay on extended induction or move on to OWL -- check it out here Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) - Atkins Diet

              Hi and welcome! Rung one is adding an additional 5 grams of carbs daily of the same veggies you have been eating already.

              Rung 2 is dairy
              Rung 3 is nuts (just to give you a heads up on those)
