  • 2nd time on atkins, last time was 7 yrs ago - on day 2 of induction

    hi all

i am sure way back in 2002 the rules were no more than 10g net carbs allowed? now its 20g... or maybe i am wrong?

its hard to get low carb stuff in the uk, i've just ordered sweets and cookies from lowcarbmegastore.com- anyone got any nice stuff from here?

i miss rice!!! anyone got any tips on indian takeout ideas other than chicken tandoori?

    thanks!

hi and welcome back -- we go by the 2002 edition of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. It states 20 net carbs daily - most of which come from vegetables. Check out the induction forum for more information. We have quiet a few members from the UK who may be able to help with places to shop for legal foods -- Elizellen is a moderator who has lost an incredible amount of weight and has maintained for a long while - she would be a wonderful person to ask questions since she is in the UK also.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water daily - nothing added except ice. Once you drink the minimium there are other drinks you can have - if you use sweetner Splenda is suggested over aspartame products (Equal and Nutri-Sweet). Exercise is mandatory from day 1 -- no excuses. There is some form of exercise everyone can do no matter their health - just find what is enjoyable and easy for you to do then add to it in a couple weeks.

Here are links to the recipe sites to help get you from eating the same old thing over and over. Rice is substituted with cauliflower - check out Linda's recipe site for wonderful foods she and others have come up with.

Check out the challenges also - you'll meet a lot of great people there! Journals are another place to read other people's stories and meet them. STAC (second time around club) is something you qualify for - they have a daily roll call to keep everyone encouraged!

Good luck on your journey. Here are links that will help get you started. Make sure you are eating induction recipes only until you are ready to move onto OWL.

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
    Filtered water
    Mineral water
    Spring water
    Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
    Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
    Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases
    Carole

        Welcome to the board, Mrs.M!

Be sure to check out the Food and Recipe forum here for ideas for quick and easy things to eat. We use cauliflower in place of rice. Try it, you'll like it!

          Hi Mrs M,

My second time too last time was 5 years ago but one baby later Ive piled on 3 stone. I do alot of Indian cooking and it doesnt take long at all. I have my curries/stir fried meat with salad or veg instead of naan and rice. Im just getting used to it.

Im off to London for the weekend but let me know I can post you up some recipies.

Good luck with your induction (Im on day 4)

Fried cauliflower "rice" is really good. I had some today.

BTW I hope you're not planning on those cookies right away. We only eat from the allowed list when on induction and those cookies will not qualify.

I would love to see your recipes too Shanila. I love curries.

Welcome back to Atkins!! The last time I did it was probably 2002 as well! It looks like a lot has changed. Well, the last time I did it I ate nothing but meat and cheese and lost 10 pounds quick. This time around I am doing it the right way and eating my veggies!

Ooohhh I wish the bars were allowed! I bought some and ate one yesterday because it says they are ok on all phases of Atkins. Then I come on here and read they are a big no-no... :-(

Good luck on your induction! I am on day 5 now and finally feeling a bit normal. Days 2-4 were nothing but headaches.

                      Good luck!!!
