  • Hi I'm Tina, new to Atkins (and here)

I hope you don't mind me intruding in here for a bit, just wanted to introduce myself...

I am 27 yrs old and live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I go to the gym (Curves) 3-4 times a week, but my diet is really awful and therefore I am seeing no results besides getting a bit stronger. I really have a hard time with snacking at night and starving myself in the day...hopefully I can stay with this and do right by my body. I am 5'3" and currently 136 lbs, the most I've ever weighed (when not pregnant). I usually am about 115-120 lbs so it is disheartening.

I look forward to reaching my goal weight and getting to know all of you!

    Tina

Welcome Tina. The best advice I can give you is to get a copy of the book and read it cover to cover with a highlighter in hand. It will prevent you from making costly mistakes along the way that can really undermine your efforts. This board is also great to set you right and answer questions. Hopefully you will soon be back to your old weight.

    HW 298
    HW (this time) 248
    GOAL ONE 228
    (take 2)
    GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
    GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
    FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Welcome to the boards, Tina! Like chinadoll said, your best best is to get a copy of the book. Until then, the boards are awsome for support, information & motivation!

      Good luck on your journey...

hi Tina -- once you read the book your will understand there is no reason to starve yourself ever on this plan. this is the most delicious weight loss plan I've ever been on and can't imagine ever not eating this way.

if you can't find a copy of the 2002 DANDR book locally you can look at www.half.com or www.amazon.com - I got my new copy for under $5.00 with shipping.

Read the stickies in the induction area - make sure you are only eating food on the acceptable food list -- get plenty of fat in your induction meals to help curb cravings and hunger. Drink at least 64 oz of pure water daily (nothing added but ice) and the exercise you are doing at Curves will start paying off in no time!

Check the recipe sites for delicious meal plans.

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
        Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
        Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases
