  • 2nd Time Around

    Good Morning Everyone,
Ten years ago I went to the Atkins Center in New York and started the program. It was tough in the beginning, but soon found out that it is the food program for me and my body. I never felt (or looked) better in my life and for the first time in my life I was able to keep the weight off for a couple of years. But then I slowly started to do it my way and have been struggling with food plans for these past years again. I loved Atkins because it is a program where I don't feel like I am on a diet. I remember focusing on what I could have and not what I couldn't have. And life was good. I want that back again, and unfortunately people have the wrong idea about it and people "out there" put it down because they understand. This is the first time I have ever posted on any bulletin board anywhere, and I want to make a start TODAY. I have the Atkins books, but I need the support. So thank you and I am looking forward to beginning again.

    Re: 2nd Time Around

Hi Liz, welcome to ADBB. The good thing is that you have the book, which is the best motivator and explanation there is. You also know what to expect so that will help you a lot. This board is full of information so explore it and find the threads that address your needs as you go. One warning, the Atkins company sells a lot of products that the good doctor never advocated and they are generally frowned upon as they stall many people and tend to feed the sweet tooth that the book tried to get us to ignore. If you stick with this board through maintenance it will help you keep it off forever this time.

          Re: 2nd Time Around

Welcome Liz - you are so right about it not feeling like you're on a diet - It is a lifestyle and outsiders don't know this and make it hard for us to continue something that has worked for us. We can't be educators to these people but just show the prove of this lifestyle with out results, whether it's our weight loss or our blood work - they WILL leave you alone once they see the change. Just don't let them discourage you. Good luck with this journey - the easy part in your situation is that you HAVE done this before and you KNOW you can do it again. I'm in the same boat, lol - You in the right place to help you through this - take care and keep it up!

Thank you to all who have responded to my post. I already feel supported. I have faith that it can be done again and am excited and looking forward to feeling and looking good again. I have not gained all of my weight back thank God, but I am still not happy being at 160 lbs. I know what it is like gaining another 10 lbs., and then another 10 lbs. So a day at a time, I aim to keep it simple. Thank you all.

Liz, its funny how we let it slip on over months and years, but want it all OFF in days and weeks. You will succeed at getting there, just may take a little while.
