    Hello, I've been on atkins (induction for the most part), since April, and I've lost 21 pounds. I love this WOE, and am looking for a nice place to share my tips and seek advice. My future plans are to ease into OWL, but I'm kinda scared, so I've been waiting for a time when I can focus on my diet better (summa time!!) I have about 20 more pounds to go, and I don't care how slow it goes as long as it goes away and stays away!

    Hi there firstly well done for your loss and i would recommend staying on extended induction longer you will lose faster i have always been on it but hey its your choice all the best hope you lose those 20lb soon.

      Warm welcome aboard Misscreep! Good to have you join us here.
      Congrats on your 21 lb loss so far. That's great!
      I'd make the move to OWL. Lots are scared to move, but once you get the hang of it, it's great. The extra food choices will be very welcome and you still get to lose.
      You're wise to not be in a rush. Just enjoy the wonderful foods you are allowed to eat, stick to the plan to the letter and the lbs will take care of themselves.

        there is nothing to be afraid of with OWL - it's easy and you will feel so much better once you are able to add more veggies into your daily meals. The first week add 5 net carbs of veggies 3 times during the week.....if you don't gain then you know you don't have a problem with that veggie -- try another veggie the next week....once you feel you are ready to move up go to the next Rung. It's wonderful and you are going to have to move on to OWL eventually might as well do it now.

          Thanks for all the great advice (already!), and thanks to you Carole, for making OWL seem so straightforward. I already do indulge in veggies whenever the mood strikes me, and I havent noticed any problems. Maybe I'm already on the first rung, and didn't even notice. I'll work on it, thanks again for the encouragement!

            I honestly think people make OWL too hard....it's just 5 net carbs of whatever Rung you are on....nothing more....it won't attack you ...it's just 5 net carbs....LOL!!!! Good luck

              You know, I was just looking at how to do OWL, and I think I am already at the 3rd rung. I eat salads, big salads, often. For dinner sometimes I'll have a salad with egg and chicken in it. And I do love my vegetables, so I'll easily have a cup with a meal, if they are presented to me. Also, I love cheese, and have been eating it liberally (not blocks of it, but definitely as snacks, and in casseroles, etc). I haven't had any cottage cheese, but I do have HWC with my egg creams almost daily, and a few weeks ago I made spinach soup with HWC, and the recipe called for a lot of it, and I was still ok.

              My point is, I've still been losing, and the veggies and dairy don't seem detrimental. Maybe I should try to be more conscious of the amount that I'm eating, and then start to incorporate a handful of almonds every few days, and see if I stall or gain.

              Is it possible I didn't realize I was in OWL?

                How many carbs are you eating? Are you counting them? How many comes from vegetables?
                Once you figure out your carb count you can think about where you are and what you should do next.

                  I'm eating about 20 carbs a day. I just looked at my food journal and it looks like I'm averaging about 10-12g of veggie carbs a day. I've notice I eat a lot of onion, avocado, salad greens, squash, and tomatoes. Sometimes broccoli, asparagus, celery, or cauliflower.

                  The rest come from eggs and cheese and the little bit of cream I may have.

                  I don't really count it or stress about it, because I do keep a journal - and unless I really screw up I don't usually go too much over 20g. It is starting to come naturally to me.

                  I'm not very...um detail oriented...which is why I'm intimidated by OWL.

                    OWL does take a little bit of initial work and thinking. I agree. But it is worth it.
                    Looking at what you are saying there it looks like you are still eating at induction levels so I would start of the OWL journey by adding some veggie carbs. Have you tried jicama? Or Pumpkin? Spaghetti Squash?

                      Are those carbier veggies? I just started eating spaghetti squash this week, I don't have any pumpkin dishes yet - but I love pumpkin. What am I supposed to do with jicama? Eat is as a snack? Thank you for the advice!!

                        Welcome to the board!

                        There are lots of nice and helpful people here. Good luck and I'm sure you can make your goal with that kind of attitude!
                        Mini goals:
                        1st - 209 lbs - Smaller then my husband!
                        2nd - 202 lbs - BMI no longer considered obese
                        3rd - 199 lbs - No longer have to say 2 in my weight!
                        5th - 168 lbs - BMI no longer considered overweight

                          They are carbier. When you try to make it to 25 eating lot of veggies you need carbier ones. Either that or six buckets of lettuce

                          I use jicama in salads but most of all I just eat it raw. I like to clean my gums with it

                            OOOOOooooo, i see! Thank you! I was wondering how I was supposed to up my veggies. Not by volume, but by selection. You rule!
