  • Turning 21 in less than 5 months...OMG!

    Hello Atkins Family,

I'm kira. I'm 20 years old. I live in LI, Ny. I joined here almost a year ago (I ALWAYS come to the site and see others progress and how they have accomplished their weight goals, so why haven't i accomplished mine?)and STILL have not started...What the ! Idk!

So I was going through my monthy planner and I realized I'm turning 21 in 5 MONTHS! I don't want to look like this on my 21st b-day!

And well... It hit me today... I was in payless looking at shoes and I was trying on a pair of shoes and I wanted to see how they looked... And I just so happen to look in a full body mirror and I broke down...I sat in the car and meditated a little... I felt like I didnt know who that was in the mirror. I always a thick/in shape girl. I was on the wrestling team, Army JROTC, weightlifting, tennis, in high school in Florida. And once I moved to LI to go to college and the weight started packing on... and eventually i let myself go and became bigger and bigger.

Long story short, I came home to boyfriend and told him how I felt and that I needed his support... So we said "I'll cook dinner and/as long as you go to the gym and start your diet, DEAL!"

So this is a little bit about me and why I am here and so it begins; I'm not waiting til Monday or Sunday or waiting til the weekend is ok... I'm taking the initiative and starting at this moment as week speak!

Wish me luck, strength & motivation...

(my stats below, is old...I'm changing them today!)
    That's me...Kira.

Kelly, you have set an extremely ambitious time line for yourself. Know that up front, but even if you only lost half of your birthday goal weight, you will still be thinner and healthier than you are right now.

The best advice I can offer you is to try not to focus on the numbers on the scale. Instead make each day about doing this WOE as close to perfectly as you can. That means water, veggies, exercise, etc. If you do that, the numbers will eventually take care of themselves. Welcome to ADBB. The first week may be tough but do it right nad soon you will be feeling and looking better.
      JILL

      HW 298
      HW (this time) 248
      GOAL ONE 228
      (take 2)
      GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
      GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
      FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

welcome Kelly -- you have a serious challenge ahead of you with the goal you have set...I won't tell you it's impossible but as China said it is ambitious...your body will loose as much and as quickly as it wants to. Stick to the plan 100%, read the book so you know what you are doing, drink at least 64 ounces of PURE water daily (nothing added), exercise daily and luck luck to you.

Since your boyfriend is going to fix you dinner I hope he will be eating the same things you are eating....I live in a household where I sit with 2 other people each night who are not on Atkins so we normally eat the same meat and then I fill my plate with my veggies while they eat potatoes and other starches. It doesn't bother me because I have everything I need on my plate! Look at the recipe sites and find foods you would ike ot eat. Your tastebuds will change over the time you are on this plan so if you try something now and don't like it try it in 3 or 4 months .... you'll be surprised!!

Good luck - here is some information I sent to all new members!

One of the best things you can do is purchase the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book (DANDR) – if you can’t find one locally www.half.com and www.Amazon.com have them pretty inexpensively.

Good luck on your journey. Here are links that will help get you started. Make sure you are eating induction recipes only until you are ready to move onto OWL.
Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t find a way and start today! Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

www.fitday.com get a free membership and track your daily food intake. Also use this site as a journal, for your daily moods, etc….it’s a great tool to help you.

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
        Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
        Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases
