  • introducing myself

    Hi!

I'm new to posting on boards and such - so here I go! I am 1 week in to this Atkins journey after being previously unsuccessful due to hypothyroid issues. The past couple of years I have continuously gained even though I was trying to lose weight with multiple diets and exercise programs. I have also been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome so exercise is quite a battle for me. I'm excited that I've already turned the Lipolysis strips pink and I think I might be going down on the scale (not a reliable scale). I look forward to going through this journey with all of you!

    Thanks,
    mom2threeangels

    Re: introducing myself

Welcome to the board, mom2threeangels! And congrats on your first week of Atkins!

Exercise doesn't have to be strenuous, just a 30 minute walk is enough to make a difference, especially if you keep doing it. Just take it a day at a time, a step at a time. Remember the tortoise and the hare? That's Atkins! Slow and steady wins the race!

    Good luck to you!

          Re: introducing myself

welcome mom -- good luck with your journey. Since you have problems with exercise try this,

The more gentle the exercise, the better it will likely be for you. Frequently recommended exercises include:
When starting, be sure to stick to exercises/poses that have you lying on the floor, seated, or in a very stable standing position. Many people with FMS and ME/CFS are prone to dizziness, especially when standing up.
          Other low-impact exercises include:
          • Bicycling
          • Walking
          • Step aerobics (once you're in fairly good shape)

Remember, the key is to start slowly, watch your symptoms carefully, and find the level of exertion that's right for you right now. Keep the following in mind:
          • Push yourself to get moving, but don't push yourself to do more until you know you're ready.
          • Expect some setbacks -- you'll need to experiment to find your current level of tolerance.
          • Remember that exertion comes in all forms. Don't try to exercise on a day that you're also going to the grocery store or doing something else that's strenuous.
          • Take breaks when you need them, but don't give up! The payoff could be less pain, more energy and a better quality of life.
this information was found here Fibromyalgia Treatment - Exercise as a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia Treatment. This is the website I was sent to last week to help my mother get her strength back after she'd been sick and lost most of her strength.

Once you get on plan and your body gets use to this way of eating the healthy food we eat will help heal your body so the exercise will be easier for you. Like the article says, start slowly, take a walk to the corner and back - in a week add a soup can in each hand for a little resistance and weight training...you will be surprised how much better you feel and how quickly it will happen.
