  • im going to do it ! .

    Hello,

Im new to the board, but not new to atkins, maybe about 8 years ago, i was at 245 lbs.. and i did atkins and reached down to 190..... then i broke my ankle, became inactive for a period of time, and my love for food and lack of exercise consumed me, and started to gain the weight , and it didn't stop, now many years later i am 27 and 295lbs.. not where i want to be..

My goal is to lose 100-115lbs, the hardest part is getting me motivated. Despite numerous attempts at the gym, hovering health problems, diabetes risk, sleep apena, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, i just cant seem to stick to a plan, ive tried other things half "@ssed".

I feel different now, I feel the itch to get back on the ball. I have been pondering for a while about getting started, my girlfriend has been trying to get me back in motion as well, with going back to the gym etc. no more excuses this has gone on too far. I haven't found anything that really worked for me, but then something in the news the other day mentioned Atkins, it sparked my interest, i was reading up on the Atkins site and though google i stumbled upon this site. After reading the success stories and the before / after pics, it inspired me to see others people struggle and success, i want to be able to post my success and inspire others. i. I am writing this as a reminder to my self of this moment... I can do it. i will do it.. see yall in a few.. induction starts tomorrow!.

WELCOME to the boards!!! I've been on atkins for about 3 weeks and let me tell you, the results are like day and night. You mention sleep apnea, I use to snore like mad, but after week 1, my fiancée said he was shocked to hear NOTHING coming from my side of the bed, lol.

First thing, you should get a copy of DANDR, if you don't already have one. Until then, read up on the rules of induction:

welcome -- check out the Century club and Second Time Around Club (STAC) both will be helpful to get you going again. No excuses - just start and stay on track!

One of the best things you can do is purchase the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book (DANDR) – if you can’t find one locally www.half.com and www.Amazon.com have them pretty inexpensively.

Good luck on your journey. Here are links that will help get you started. Make sure you are eating induction recipes only until you are ready to move onto OWL.
Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t find a way and start today! Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

www.fitday.com get a free membership and track your daily food intake. Track NET CARBS daily … and also use the journal, for your daily moods, etc….it’s a great tool to help you.

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
          Filtered water
          Mineral water
          Spring water
          Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
          Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
          Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases
