  • Hello Everyone!

    Hi everyone
i'm Kelley and i'm not new to this WOE but i'm new to the board... I was on atkins a few years back and lost almost 50 lbs... i loved the food and everything about it...which doesnt explain why i fell off the wagon. A friend referred me to this site and i've been looking over it, and without a doubt i have a better chance of being sucessful with all the help from you. everyone here seems so supportive of each other.
i'am a chef, so im looking forward to taking carb-filled recipes and turning them into delicious low carb dishes.

    i am 5'3" and weigh 205 lbs

my first goal is to get to about 185
second goal is to get to 175
and my final goal is to be around 130 or whatever i feel most comfortable at.

i hope to be chatting with alot of you!

    Re: Hello Everyone!

Hi Kelley and welcome, welcome to this wonderful forum! You are right on the money when you say you'll get lots of support from everyone here! I don't have a lot to lose but with Atkins, I'm losing a pound at a time, which over the years, is pretty well how it went on, lol. It's funny, you don't really notice yourself going UP a pound at a time, but you sure notice it coming OFF!

I often refer to Dr. Atkin's 2002 version of his book, (which is the version this forum uses) in fact, it's usually on the kitchen counter, with a bookmark in it where I left off. I find the book very helpful, specially since I lose so slowly, and my son and husband were losing so quickly. (They have slowed down, but neither exercise, whereas I do!)

There's lots of challenges to check out, not to mention wonderful recipes, some, Induction friendly, some, more for after Induction. Then of course there is Linda's Low Carb Menus and Recipes site, wow, what a site that is! Here's a link to her home page. I have yet to use a recipe we didn't like! In fact, I want a laptop, so I can set it on the kitchen counter while I cook, instead of running to this computer in the next room all the time, lol.

So have fun cooking, losing weight, and enjoying this wonderful WOE! Keep us posted on how you do Kelley,

    Suzanne

        Re: Hello Everyone!

welcome back to Atkins -- however things went for you last time just remember your body and your life are completely different so it you don't loose as quickly or effortlessly don't give up -- it will happen as long as you stick to the plan as it's written.

We have several recipe sites you can check to get ideas on dinner plans. If you need anything we're always here and answering questions!

One of the best things you can do is purchase the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book (DANDR) – if you can’t find one locally www.half.com and www.Amazon.com have them pretty inexpensively – mine was under $5.00 with shipping.

Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t - find a way and start today! Most of us aren’t active before Atkins – but once you get going you’ll find it’s so easy to carve out some time each day to walk, run, swim find something and just do it!

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people – you can use them further up the Rungs but not to begin with. Also remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

Here are links that will help get you started. Make sure you are preparing induction recipes only until you are ready to move onto OWL.

www.fitday.com get a free membership and track your daily food intake. Track NET CARBS daily … and also use the journal, for your daily moods, etc….it’s a great tool to help you.

Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

After your 64 ounces you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
        Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
        Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

        Good luck on your journey.
        Carole

          Re: Hello Everyone!

Welcome Kelley. I am no chef but do cook from scratch every single day (and always have) and I have found a surprising number of ways to make tasty interesting meals and I am sure you will too.

Some of my favorites are cheesecake (after dairy is added, rung 2) , zucchini ribbons sauteed with pesto (after nuts, rung three) and eggplant rollatini (also rung two).

Just because we eat low carb doesn't mean we don't get to eat very very well!

          FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

            Re: Hello Everyone!

I agree with Jill -- I actually eat better now than I have ever eaten in my life. In the months since I started Atkins I've learned to put things together I would have never thought of doing or of eating....it's amazing how thinking differently about food brings wonderful meals to the table.
