  • Frustrated!!!

Ugh! I'm in sales...and so am often going out to eat...so I've inadvertantly blown the induction phase three times in the last month...and I was ready to throw in the towel....but decided to plunk down and find a website with people who are attempting the same thing. I've purchased the Ketosis strips and was doing well on them, until today, we went to lunch and I had a Cobb salad with Caesar dressing...apparently it was too much because my body no longer registers that it's in ketosis. I'm frustrated...unless I make all of my own meals (which isn't realistic) is there hope to finish out Induction?!

Yes there is hope keep going in induction stay within your 20 carbs limit and be abit more aware of what your eating and count carbs if your going to eat out meat dishes are made in most places go for meat where you know total protein and your on the safe side.Hang in there if you keep going you will get good results as induction is the time you lose the most weight. All the best.

Yes, there is hope!! On the other hand, though, your success is entirely up to you and you alone! Induction is tough for a reason. If you make it through Induction, you get a small glimpse of the rest of your life on this way of eating. If you make it through a successful induction, you can make it through all phases!

I do not recommend restaurant eating for anyone on Induction, but if you must, it can be done. Don't get creative about anything. Have very basic food. Stick to tried and true safe foods to get through those meals. It's tricky because you never know what they "add" to their eggs. You don't know if their bacon is cured in sugar. Mostly likely, it is. Do you carry any foods with you? What kind of sales are you in? Do you just travel in your car all day long? Do you have an office with a refrigerator? There are many simple solutions to get you through. We just need a bit more info.

I work in retail and travel store to store. It's hard but can be done. I carry a lunch tote. I pack myself chicken, pepper strips, cauliflower and cheese bites. I have one flax meal cookie for 'dessert'. The hard part for me is driving. I quit smoking so I feel I need to have something in my mouth. I chomp on peppers.
I wish you the very best.

here are links you can check carbs and other nutritional information - you can always order foods without bread of any kind - take your own dressing in small containers or ask for the dressing on the side and dip the salad into the dressing (you'll use less that way), order a side of veggies and ask that if they serve carrots in the "mixed veggies" that they be taken out (or take them out yourself). On days you don't have lunch plans with anyone else stop at a deli and purchase a small amount of meat & cheese for roll ups, grab a copule packets of mayo to dunk them in. Salad bars are a lifesaver -- just remember the dressing on the side rule! Stock your salad with cucumbers, broccoli, cucumber, a "few" grape tomatoes, etc. They may weigh more but they have more nutrition than plain lettuce.

If you don't feel comfortable announcing to whomever you are eating with that you are following the Atkins plan you can say you are eating "gluten free", or you have "food allergies" -- those seem to be good buzz words these days and no one asks any questions.

Don't depend on the keotsis sticks only as a determining factor of whether or not you're in keotsis.....I haven't shown any color in months but have continued to loose weight....there are a lot of reasons why you may not be showing any color on the sticks.

It will be more challenging for you to follow the plan but it can be done. My brother has been following it for 4 months, he's lost 40 pounds and eats with clients on the road most days of the week.

Make sure you are using the exercise room at the hotel - if they don't have one then get out and walk, push-ups, jumping jacks, etc. can all be done without any equipment. Purchase a couple exercise DVD's and use them in your room on your laptop.

Drink plenty of water in the day - the book says 64 ounces of pure water minimum daily. Decaf coffee and tea when you drink these. Make sure you have your water intake finished before you drink anything else.

Like I said before, it will be more of a challenge for you but it is possible. Don't get frustrated, turn that frustration around and use it to your advantage!

            Re: Frustrated!!!

Only test once a day with the sticks, preferable at the same time of day. The levels will fluctuate throughout the day and might not show on the stix. I personally found them unreliable and frustrating and prefer to simply chart my food on fitday and make sure I am eating properly. If I am eating within my carbs and am not crazy with cravings, I know I am in ketosis--simple as that. A Cobb salad with Caesar dressing should be fine.

              Re: Frustrated!!!

Thank you all so much for your input! I am taking your advice on the ketosis strips (not relying on them so much and if I do use them, same time of day) and packing snacks while on the road. This has helped a lot because I eat before I meet clients to...well..eat! And then I order steak or salad and dip it in the dressing!

I cannot tell you how much your input has helped! I have been working out, Monday/Wed/Fridays for an hour in the morning and then an hour of cardio Tues/Thurs. I haven't seen a ton of weight loss, (only 8 pounds in about five weeks) but I did have two slipups so that may be why. I'm motivated and have been starting again since Monday and will finish it out this time!!

              Thanks again!

                Re: Frustrated!!!

I would say for now, if you want losses on the scale, up the days of cardio and cut back to two workouts a week. For what it is worth, my trainer told me that 3 cardios a week maintains weight. It takes four to give you a worthwhile loss on the scales.
