  • Trying to get my life back under control

    Hi,

my name is Cate and I am 23. Bare with me for this intro I have a lot I need to get out of my system. I am five foot five (5'5) and I am very overwhelemed by the huge ammount of weight that I have gained in the last three years. I was under-weight up untill I was 19. I was a very thin child and as a teenager I was a competitive dancer and very active. At fifteen I developed an eating disorder and from 15 to 19 my weight bounced between 92lbs and 105lbs. At 19 I decided that I was putting my health at risk with retricted dieting (anorexia) and excessive exercise. I wanted to recover and I stabalized my weight at 120. In my second year of university (due to physical inactivity and opulent food indulgences) I gained 15lbs moving up to 135lbs. In third year the added stress of my pre-law undergraduate studies and depression about my prior weight gain added another 15lbs to my very slight frame, I was 150lbs. This threw me into a state of despair and I began to binge with the same intensity that I had reserved for starvation in the past. In the summer of my third year of university while working as a summer student at a law firm I gained another 15lbs in four months bulking up to 165lbs. I started working out and lost the 15lbs in a month but regained it by christmas. In preparation for my sisters wedding in July I began dieting and brought my weight from 165lbs to 145lbs, by september I was back up to 155lbs and by christmas again 165lbs again. It is now April and I weighed in at an all time high of 170lb. I want to regain control of my life and I want to change my lifestyle for the sake of my health and my sanity. In four years I have gained 50lbs. I can't keep living like this it is terrible for my confidence and for my spirit. I am always afraid of diets because I know how obsessed I can become and I am no longer at a place in my life where I can rationalise to myself that 85lbs is a realistic and desirable weight. I just want to be healty and comfortable in my own skin. At my height with my tiny bone structure I think 120 would be a healthy and realistic goal. I am ready to begin this journey and could use all the support I can get. I started induction today with high hopes!
    thanks,
    cate

Welcome to the board! I hope you find the support and caring that I have certainly received here. With eating disorder in your background, I would be sensitive to focus too much on the weight loss, but in eating healthy. The weight will take care of itself as you follow the plan correctly. I wish you the best, and I hope to see you around more often.

welcome to ADBB and to Atkins WOL. Atkins will blow your dieting mind so you need to carefully read your book and understand that all those studies Dr Atkins refers to were done a long time ago and the results have been repeated and repeated fats yes fats do cause the most pounds to be lost and the weight loss continued even when the test subjects caloric intake was increased for the initial 1000 cals something that didn't hold true for the low fat high carb test subjects. So embrace those healthy fats Dr Atkins tells you you can have. Atkins is a High fat plan. You can because it takes more cals to metabolize the fats and proteins of Atkins eat more calories and still lose weight not tons more but about 30% more. if you switch from the USDA high carb low fat 2000 cal a day plan to Atkins induction plan eating 2000 cals also in one yr doing nothing else different you will have lost almost 15 pounds eating the same number of cals.

The 65% fats 30% proteins and under 20 net carbs for induction cals has been checked and doubkle checked it will work fo 95% of the folk who switch to Atkins with nothing else going on with their metabolism, even those that are metabolically resistant can heal up there metabolism as they continue doing Atkins under the conditions he set up for that 5% of thepopulation. You will know at the end of your by the book chapter 11 induction 14 days resluts if you are one of them or not.

Ut oh now the heart health scare demons are stirring but know that Dr Atkins was a practicing cardiologist and his pateins since the 60s were eating his plan for weight loss and improved cardiovascular health. yep that says a lot for those nay sayers who just know it is bad ofr you but can't show you one single study that proves eating fats without carbs causes and of those artery clogging stories they will tell you.

Next exercise is a must on Atkins as he tells you when you read chapter 15 and 22 of your book.

SO red your book, eat your atkins according to the chapter 11 rules stopping when you feel your hunger is satisfied even if you got food on the plate, room in your belly or carbs in your budget, drink all the water you need for your amount of weight, take the supplements you need, and do the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins andyou too will be a loser.

                Happy low carbing.

Oh if you miss it remember to use your tape measure so you can see that body fat lose even when the scales don't validate your hard work as your body will do a little mass morphing as you add lean body mass while you lose fat mass.
