Hi, I am new to this site, but not to atkins. This is the first time I have ever decided to join any type of forum. I have been looking at your site for several weeks now and liked a lot of the info I was reading and thought why not. I have been on the induction for 10 days now and am starting to believe that I may be one of the Metabolic Resistive people Dr. Atkins talks about in his book, so I am going to be in need of a lot of support to help me on this journey of a new lifestyle change. I have enjoyed the experience so far and have not found it very difficult to do, hopefully this time I will be able to stick with it and enjoy the benefits of living a much more healthier life.

    Re: .hey

Hi Pretty Lady and welcome aboard.
Congrats on taking control of your eating via Atkins and on posting here with us. You'll find the place to have a wealth of good info and tips.

Hang in there and try to be patient. Some people take a little longer for the weight loss to kick in. You could also be losing inches. Sometimes it takes the actual lbs a while to catch up, but inches are what really count and are the true guage of your morphing body.

You need to really try to complete induction absolutely cheat free. That way you'l be able to get a good idea of how metabolically resistent you are to weight loss (or are not). You'll also be able to have a fair idea of whereabouts your CCLL (critical carb level for losing) will be.

Post lots, make friends and use the board for all it offers. We're all in this together!
    Before and after:

Hey Pretty Lady, and welcome to ADBB. You already have some good advice there. Patience (especially if you are a slow loser like me) is key. Glad you found your way to us.

Hi - you don't say how much you have to loose or what you've been eating so it's a little hard to know if you are actually resistant or if it's just taking a little longer for you to loose. Do you take any medications that might cause you to loose slower? Did you take your measurements before you started so you know if you are loosing inches or not? How much pure water do you drink daily? What type and amount of exercise are you doing? Everything counts so let us know how things are going.

Thanks for the feedback, My starting weight was 239, depending on the day and the scale my current weight is about 232, I am a diabetic and am on pills and insulin. So far I have been eating a lot of eggs and bacon and chicken and vegetables.
Since looking on the forum I have learned a lot of things that I should have done differently, so I am going to do the extended induction and try to incorpate some of the information I have found. Hopefully I will get better results.

The fact that you are diabetic will make it tougher to loose weight (the meds and insulin like to hold the weight on us). You will have to be extra serious about not cheating because it will take more to loose the weight. Make sure you drink half your weight in water daily -- nothing added - pure water....that will help keep your body functioning properly and will help get rid of the impurities.

I am Type 2 -- take glyb/metformin 5/500 in the morning and metformin 1000 mg at bedtime - believe me it's been a slow road but I have earned every pound that has left my body!

Figure out some type of exercise plan you can do and start tomorrow. I have several DVD's so I don't get bored with the same thing over and over. I also ride a stationary bike daily and have incorporated lifting light weights this week - everything helps.

This is doable - it will just be tougher. Don't give up it's worth it in the long run.

Well, today is day 14 of the induction for me and boy I was doing so good, until we too my husband out for dinner tonight for Father's day. We took him to O'Charley's for dinner I thought I waould be okay with steak, aspargus, ceasar salad, but I ended up with chicken finger and fried cheese stick which was breaded and honey mustard sauce, so I am so sure that I went well over the 20 carbs for today. But since I am planning on doing the extended induction I am hoping that I didn't do too much damage. Maybe one night of over eating will help to jump start the weight loss again. I haven't lot any weight in the last 6 days.

                    Re: .hey

I have been back on seriously since early March so it has taken me four months to lose 17 pounds. And that is with regular cardio four days a week and weight lifting 2-3 days a week. And I did the first two months with NO CHEATS-not one mouthful.

That cheat itself won't hurt you, but if you are already taking little liberties that often leads to bigger and more frequent ones. (At least that is my history) Really try to do this as cleanly as possible. It is mostly a mental commitment and you can't always control it. I know it took me two months of waking up every day to get my head totally committed and not cheating in some little way, but once I did, my results finally began to show. (That was in March--up til then I think I had only lost three pounds in two months because I wasn't seriously committed.) Other than those two small transgressions, you made an excellent choice for your meal. I usually get the same thing.

                      Re: .hey

Since you already know you'll cheat it's probably best to get further into the plan before you go out to eat again...temptation isn't your friend!! The idea that overeating will help start you loosing weight again isn't a good frame of mind. The way to loose weight is through hard work - not the occassional cheat. I agree with Jill - small cheats here and there will end up being a day, or two or the weekend. Good luck staying on track.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree, I probably should not have gone out. I actually passed up going to a wedding reception to keep from cheating. So I was disappointed that I didn't do a better job of staying on the diet at the resturant. However my blood sugars were still very good this morning and I was able to get right back on track. My big concern now is how to treat low blood sugars without cheating on the diet.

Dibby, I think you may find that the blood sugars will stabilize as your body gets more used to this WOE. Right now you still have a hair trigger Insulin response and that will probably improve over time. Keep feeding yourself every few hours with veggies and protein (if you have to move to Rung One-do so) and you should have a fairly stable BS. Do keep your doctor informed so that adjustments can be made as often as needed over this first month. You have some major shifts going on in your body so you will need some tweaking with your meds as your body copes with the changes.

Thanks for the info. I will be seeing my doctor tomorrow is there any thing else that I need to ask her about as far as doing the atkins diet is concern? I am just trying to get on the right track from the start and since you has already started thought you might remember some questions that I may need to ask that I will not think about until later.

                              Re: Hey, it's me again

Hi, it's me again. I am starting with Atkins again, this has been frustrating for me so far but I am determined to live the atkins lifestyle no matter how many times I have to start over. I started out really good and was extremely pleased with the results that I got with my blood sugars, they were better than they have been in years, but the weight was not coming off like I thought it should. I rechecked my carb count to make sure that I wasn't eating more than 20 carbs a day. Somewhere along the way I got way off track and still didn't seem to be losing the weight. I decided to restart the induction phase of atkins 3 days ago and so far I have been doing well. Last month a decided to join a few of the challenges and have enjoyed participating in them, however I am not sure if I have the discipline it takes to follow the diet correctly, but I do know that I do the challenges. Dieting has always been hard for me but exercise is something I don't mind doing. I plan to keep participating in the challenges and I guess I will continue working towards learning how to live the atkins lifestyle, hopefully this time I will get it right.
