  • Atkins for 3 weeks now

    I've been on Atkins for 3 weeks now, all induction phase. The 1st 2 weeks were great....lost 10 pds and 10 inches. My third week, I haven't lost any weight, but can tell that I'm still losing inches. The 3rd week, I started to develop severe headaches...and can't seem to get rid of them. What does this mean? I'm drinking plenty of water, on lots of vitamins, and I work out 1 hour each night. Can someone help me with the headache situation. Plus, I've noticed that I've started to develop heart palputations....ugh! Anyone in the same boat as me?

    Congrats on the Loss!!
    i was gonna say it could be withdrawls, but then i saw that it was in your 3rd week. the first time i did this WOE i had heart palputations but im not sure if it was related to my change in diet or not. If it gets worse, or your worried about it, i would see your doc, there might be another reason for them, if its not too severe maybe just wait another week see if it gets better. You could also try moving up to OWL adding more variety to your diet maybe that will help?

      I saw my doctor yesterday and he's going to put me on a heart monitor for the next 2 weeks. My headaches didn't start until this week....I'm in the highest ketosis stage you can get to....may be that's the cause of it. Maybe I'm not eating enough carbs...my normal daily intake is only 10.

        There is no difference in keotsis -- you are either IN or your aren't. Normally the more color is from dehydration...you say you drink "enough" water -- how much do you consider "enough"? Dr Atkins said minimum 64 ounces of pure water - nothing added daily. Most people drink half their weight in water to help flush the fat and impurities out of their system each day.

        Post a couple days menus so we can tell if you need to add more fats, more veggies or whatever -- give us exact amounts of everything. This isn't a diet where you starve yourself, you need the fats and veggies which help account for your carbs daily. Dr. Atkins said no more than 20 carbs daily -- 10 may be too little - we'll see.

          Sounds like dehydration. How much pure plain water do you drink each day? At your weight you should be shooting for 80-90 ounces a day. And are you getting in your three cups of vegetables each day? Also, what meats are you eating. If you are eating a lot of processed meats that can have an effect on you as well.
