  • Back to bacon

Hiya! I just started the induction phase on Friday, June 19. I'm back to Atkins after several years of weight gain and other diets. Atkins is the only one that has every worked for me. And I'm thrilled to be eating bacon again!

My goal is to go from a size 14 back to a size 6, where I was when I did Atkins back in 2002. That first time put me in bikini shape, and I'd love to be there again.

Thanks for this fantastic site! I will certainly need a lot of support this time around.

I started Atkins because I LOVE bacon
First time 2002: 145/130 -- reached goal in 6 weeks, generally maintained for 2 years, then dove back into carbs
    2nd time started June 2009: 183/180/135

    FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Baconator - that is the Wendy thing, is it? I actually never tried one. Maybe I'll make a revolution roll and try one.

            Re: Back to bacon

welcome back -- make sure the bacon you eat isn't sugar cured or has nitrates! Good luck to you again...check the STAC (Second Time Around Club) for additional support.

Here is some info to refresh your memory.

We follow the 2002 edition of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) - reading the book will give you all the information you need plus will explain the science and reasoning behind each step of the plan. Starting this plan without reading the book would be like taking a test without ever reading the material – it doesn’t make sense to not give yourself the best possible chance of succeeding. If you can't find a copy locally www.half.com and www.Amazon.com have them pretty inexpensively – mine was under $5.00 with shipping.

Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t - start today! Most of us aren’t active before Atkins – but once you get going you’ll find it’s so easy to carve out some time each day to walk, run, swim find something you like and just do it!

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people – you can use them further up the Rungs but not to begin with. Also remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

Here is a thread that will give you loads of information to be able to follow the plan correctly.

www.fitday.com get a free membership and track your daily food intake. Track NET CARBS daily … and also use the journal, for your daily moods, etc….it’s a great tool to help you.

Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
            Filtered water
            Mineral water
            Spring water
            Tap water

Crystal Lite, sugar free drinks of any kind are not acceptable – PURE water is the only thing that count toward your daily water intake.

After your 64 ounces you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
            Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
            Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (causes weight stall in many people)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons
*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

            Good luck on your journey.
            Carole

iwillbethin29 - how did you do it! 230 to 180. That is a dream of mine (of course this time starting I am far above 230). I too am in Arizona. Thanks for the note of inspiration.

                Re: Back to bacon

This is a title for me about 12 years ago I started Atkins for the ?????? number of times. I didn't want to be hungry and thought if I could eat all I wanted of certain things I could do it. So the first week I did at least a pound of bacon a day if not more. But it was a start for me. Others had a lot to say how that could not work but after 1 year of staying right with it I had taken off 100 Pounds, Most of the time could not go over 20 carbs. or I would not lose.

You know how it goes after 2 more kids, not exercising and eating I had gained 64 pounds. Of which today I am down 19.5 of that and have only 44.5 to lose. I know I can do it because I have done it before.

Low Carb has come along way since 12 years ago. Even farther since the first time I started it 34 years ago.

Yep. Those are my numbers exactly. I'm hoping to get from 230 to 180. I wear a size 10 at 180 and that's comfortable for me. I'm a retread, for about the 15th time. Wish me luck.

                  Peace,
