Hi tinkabell i like the name.Uni is a place where most people put on the weight due to stress and having no time so fast food is easier.Oh and i forgat to say welcome to you.As you have not done the diet before I would like to say think positive and do a clean induction only drink water no diet drinks, stay away from coffee and try to do some exercise these are helpful hints and will speed up loss as induction is the time you will lose the most weight take advantage. All the best, let us know how you get on.

Hi Tinkabell. You're going to find a lot of support here so visit often and ask questions. Its especially great when you get frustrated. Everyone has different experiences so you can almost always find someone with advice that works.

Do read the book. For best results do a clean Induction. Drink LOTS of plain pure water. Exercise and eat your three cups of veggies a day.

Hello Everyone...thank you for all your warm welcome messages!

I have the 2002 edition of the Dr. Atkins new Diet revolution and it hasnt left my side since yesterday morning!

My first day went well and i did a big workout session last night (which absolutely killed me!), but im not going to weigh myself for a week as i dont want to rely solely upon what the scales say! So once my first week is over i will let you know if i have lost anything..hopefully i will

So far so good... good luck fellow newbie! Keep at it!

Also... if anybody has any good meal ideas/recipes for my induction then do let me know! Thank you x

Linda's Low carb recipes site has some great recipes. Definitely cruise our recipe forum as well.

                  Re: Newbie )

hi and welcome - here is some info to help you.

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people – you can use them further up the Rungs but not to begin with. Also remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

Here is a thread that will give you loads of information to be able to follow the plan correctly. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-approach.html (BEFORE you begin the Atkins Nutritional Approach...)

Here is a little more information you'll need:
                  Recipe Sites
                  http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html
                  (Never ending induction recipes)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/58513-never-ending-induction-recipes.html

                  http://www.sugarfreesheila.com/RecipesPage.html

www.fitday.com get a free membership and track your daily food intake. Track NET CARBS daily … and also use the journal, for your daily moods, etc….it’s a great tool to help you.

Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
                  Filtered water
                  Mineral water
                  Spring water
                  Tap water

Crystal Lite, sugar free drinks of any kind are not acceptable – PURE water is the only thing that count toward your daily water intake.

After your 64 ounces you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
                  Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
                  Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (causes weight stall in many people)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons
*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

                  Good luck.
                  Carole

                      Re: Newbie )

make sure you have acceptable snacks on hand in case you get a little hungry. Radishes, celery, colored peppers, etc.....these are great things to eat and will take the edge off your hunger.

The run will be a good thing also -- whenever I think I really need to eat something I drink a large glass of cold water and wait a few minutes...most times that takes care of the "hunger" -- because it was my body needing water not food.

                      Good luck.
