  • Hiya everyone newbie here!

Hiya everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Karen 5ft 2 and 11st 6pounds and desperately wanting to be 9 stone by tomorrow..lol. Have just completed my first day of induction and boy it's a struggle. I was almost going to the fridge for a sneaky chocolate when i came across this site and thank god for it. Had a look at everyones success and the munchies have gone for the sweet stuff and my determination is at an all time high after signing up.

Not sure what the next 13days of induction are going to bring for me but can't wait now for the fat to melt away.

Hope everyone is well. Please write back i'd love to get speaking to everyone. x

Hi Karen ~ Iam new to this Forum today but not to the program I have been going strong since 1/1/09. What works best for me when I crave something sweet is to go the other way with~ olives, dill pickles, hard boiled eggs, cheddar cheese, all of these are very low in net carbs as well!!!

    I hope that helps!!! ~Cindi~

Hi Karen, welcome! Glad you found us when you did! I credit these boards for keeping me on track when I'm tempted. The celebration forums and before & after pics are a huge inspiration to me. There is also a wealth of knowlege, advice and motivation here. This WOE starts "hard", then only gets easier from there...just concentrate on doing a clean induction to start with

        Re: Hiya everyone newbie here!

        Hi and welcome -

Eat a variety of foods, get your fats, carbs and protein in daily, drink plenty of pure water (nothing added), take your supplements and exercise...it's really that easy. Take everything out of your cupboard you aren't eating during induction and give it to someone - that way you won't be tempted to eat or drink anything that's not on plan.

A copy of the 2002 edition of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) is invaluable to succeeding. If you can't find a copy locally www.half.com and www.Amazon.com have them pretty inexpensively – mine was under $5.00 with shipping.

Here is a thread that will give you loads of information to be able to follow the plan correctly. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people – you can use them further up the Rungs but not to begin with. If it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sodas, latte’s, smoothies – don’t count – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your 64 oz daily of water. Now is the time to make changes – stop using these products. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water.

Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

After your 64 ounces you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
        Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
        Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (causes weight stall in many people)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons
*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

Exercise is mandatory ….. no excuses - start today! Many of us weren’t active before Atkins – once you get going you’ll find it’s so easy to carve out time each day to walk, run, swim or whatever you choose to do! Take a walk one day, do some light weight training the next day…shake up your routine so your body doesn’t get use to the same thing.

Look at all the delicious foods you can make while you’re eating this way – vary your meals so you don’t get bored with the same thing over and over.

Hi! I'm new too. Your craving will start to get easier and subside around day 3. That is at least how it has been for me. I could really relate to your waiting to be your goal weight NOW. Anyway, good luck to you and we can do this! MMM

                Re: Hiya everyone newbie here!

Hi Kazibee, the 2nd to 4th day are the toughest for most of us so you should be feeling great in a couple of days.

I know you are anxious for big Induction losses but keep in mind it took a long time to gain weight and it takes longer to lose it because your body is comfortable with keeping it. Not everyone drops a lot on Induction and the successful losers often lose at 1 pound a week rates-- remember how the tortoise beat the hare. Well that's the way it often works here too.

Good for you for getting through day 2 without giving in. I think this first week is the hardest part and where most folks bail. Sounds like you have already passed the worst of things so hang in there the good is coming.
