    Hi Leanne. Welcome to !

Let's see... First of all, if you are hungry, you should eat something. No need to be hungry on Atkins. After a few days ketosis will kick in and your appetite will subside. But until then, don't worry if you find yourself eating more than you are used to, especially more than you are used to on low fat/calorie diets.

Now, what to eat.... Do you have the Induction acceptable foods list? If you don't, here is the link to it:

Basically you can have anything from that list, so there are many options. Some foods are limited though (e.g. cheese, avocado or organ meats), so make sure not to go over your daily allotment.

Spread the required 3 cups of veggies throughout the day, to avoid a blood sugar spike. And always eat them with some fat and protein, to minimize the impact carbohydrates have on your blood sugar.

Also do not forget that Atkins is a high fat, moderate protein, low carbohydrate diet, and excess protein can be converted into glucose. That's why you don't want to overeat protein.

Drink enough water (min. 64 oz per day) as hunger it's easily mistaken for thirst.

Did you read DANDR 2002 or at least the Induction chapter there? That would help you a lot.

Here are the Rules of Induction, in case you don't have them already: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

Also check the FAQs on the Board. Many questions you have are probably answered there. If have more questions, post them in the forums. Since you are in Induction, most of them should probably be asked in the "Atkins Diet 14-Day Induction" forum.

      Welcome to the board, leelouise!

Don't give up because it just takes some planning and determination to get the hang of Atkins. Soon your appetite will subside. One of your problems seems to be a coffee addiction as well as a carb addition which makes it a little harder at first but just stick with it and in a few days you will feel so much better.

Keep us posted on your progess!

Don't give up. I am on my 5th day of induction. I printed out the accepted food list for the induction diet and anytime I am hungry I will eat anything off that list. I have lost about 5 pounds. Eat if you are hungry.... just make sure you stick to the list. I write everything down that I eat in a notebook and keep track of the carbs. It takes some practice. This is the second time I have done Atkins. It does work. I really like the forum. It is a useful tool and gives you a lot of motivation. So far everyone one on here has been very helpul and full of inspiration. Keep it up it will get better.

Re: new to the atkins diet

It sounds like you need to read the rules and get to know the foods you are allowed to eat on induction. You are going to have to learn to read the ingredients (not just the nutrition label) and know what the different names for sugar are.

Check these links for additional help -- do you have the 2002 DANDR book? It will help more than anything because once you read it you will know what you are doing.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of this page http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/

Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
              Filtered water
              Mineral water
              Spring water
              Tap water

Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sodas, latte’s, smoothies – don’t count – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your daily water intake. Now is the time to make changes – stop using these products. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water

Check the recipe sites also - they are very helpful and will help make your meals so much more enjoyable.

                Hi leeann
You have not ruined anything. Most of makes those kind of oopsies on induction. Induction is part of cleaning this up and realizing certain things about foods.
Hang in there lady. We are rooting for you.

Re: new to the atkins diet

Hi leeann, everyone makes slip ups their first time. There are lots of foods with hidden carbs out there. Just make mental notes when these things happen so you don't repeat the error. The first few days are the toughest and the fact that Day one is so hard is a red flag that you really do have a sugar additiction you need to kick. Keep at it and you will get there. As liv said, we are rooting for you.

Re: new to the atkins diet

HI Leelouise, I'm new also. I just started Atkins on the first of July and I have messed up, too. Don't let it get you down, just keep plugging away! On the 4th, our daughter and her family came to visit and brought over a dessert that we won't even talk about here. I did have a sliver of it, but I got back on track..I thought..then this morning, I had an Atkins shake..then read that one induction, I should stick only to the foods listed and even that isn't allowed..so I'm back to day one again starting tomorrow! lol

We can do it..just hang in there!
