  • New here....

Hi everyone! My name is Kayla and I am 27 years old. I am happy to be starting this journey and hope with the help of this community that I will be able to stick to it.
I am currently 200lbs and stand at 5 feet 2 inches. A few years ago I use to be at a healthy 125lbs. I would say that was about 3 years ago. Back then I loved going to the gym every day and being active, I never had to diet to keep my weight down. Over the past few years that lifestyle has slipped away, I can't even remember the last time I went to the gym and in the last 3 years I have put on a good 70lbs. So my goal is to get back down to 125...this is the first actual diet I will have tried...so wish me luck!

    Welcome Kayla.
And welcome to your first diet. I hope it is going well. How come you chose this one over the other ones? You know someone who were successful on Atkins perhaps?
Good luck! Will you have time to go to the gym again or do some exercises?
Do you have the book yet? It is very helpful. Make sure you check out these rules:

Here are some threads in our FAQ that will help you.

Hi Kayla and welcome. Before you start it is helpful to think about what has caused your life to change and allowed you to drop the gym time as a daily habit. Being aware of the things that caused the gain can aid you in taking them back off. Liv's links are a great crash course in the necessities but if you can get the book, 2002 DANDR is really the best for explaining things in detail and is also a great motivator.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

        Re: New here....

Hi Kayla and welcome to ADBB. I’m one of the Spotlight Hostesses. This is a very easy plan to follow if you know what you are doing and follow it to the letter. Here is a little information I hope will help get you started. We follow the 2002 DANDR book it would be very beneficial to buy a copy so you know what you’re doing. (check www.half.com or www.amazon.com for a cheap copy - mine was under $5.00 with shipping).

To begin with it a food is not listed on the "acceptable food" list don't eat it - you can start adding foods back in 2 weeks when you move on to OWL (ongoing weight loss).

*Before you start take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of induction - there are too many variables daily and hourly that can cause your weight to change, so weighing at the end of induction is what Dr. Atkins suggested.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily.
*Drink plenty of pure water (nothing added ***– see below for more info).
        *Take your supplements and exercise
*Stay away from the shakes and bars (they aren’t legal on induction) and any processed or chemically enhanced foods – we eat whole foods.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of this page – it’s a condensed version of the DANDR book.
        http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

*** Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sugar free kool-aid & diet sodas do not count they are chemically enhanced and most include aspartame (also not allowed on Atkins) – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your daily water intake. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water

The recipe sites are a helpful way to make your meals more enjoyable – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
