Hi everyone I am starting the induction phase today. I am new to this bulletin board and actually this is my first time using any bulletin board on the web.

I asked a question in another forum but I don't know if that was where I was suppose to ask it.

    My question was:

During the induction phase are you really allowed to eat as much no carb food as you need or would like? For instance, if I eat 4 eggs and 4 peices of bacon in the morning and it doesn't fill me up can I go ahead and eat 2 more eggs and 2 more peices of bacon?

    Re: New here

Hi Kim..I'm new, too. I actually started induction on July 1st, but I've cheated a couple of times, so today I'm starting again, without the cheats. In chapter 11 of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), it states to eat liberally of the induction food list. Eat until you're satisfied, but not stuffed. So, if you eat and still feel hungry, eat some more. On one of the board "stickies" there is a list of allowable induction foods.

I actually bought my book at our library's used book store for 50 cents. It looks as if it's never been used. I see them at thrift stores all the time, so you might want to look there first, if you don't already have a copy.

I look forward to hearing about your progress!

      Re: New here

Welcome aboard. I'm sure people with more knowledge than me will chime in soon.

But... as you say it is how I understand it. After a week or so on Atkins, your appetite will diminish considerably. In the beginning, it's best not to be hungry because hunger leads to cheating.

      Best of luck!

          Re: New here

Hi and welcome to ADBB. I’m one of the Spotlight Hostesses. Here is a little information I hope will help get you started. We follow the 2002 DANDR book it would be very beneficial to buy a copy so you know what you’re doing.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily.
*Drink plenty of pure water (nothing added ***– see below for more info).
*Take your supplements and exercise – that’s the plan.
*Stay away from the shakes and bars (they aren’t legal on induction) and any processed or chemically enhanced foods – we eat whole foods.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of this page – it’s a condenced version of the DANDR book. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
          Filtered water
          Mineral water
          Spring water
          Tap water

*** Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sugar free kool-aid & diet sodas do not count they are chemically enhanced and most include aspartame (also not allowed on Atkins) – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your daily water intake. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water

The recipe sites are a helpful way to make your meals more enjoyable – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

            Re: New here

I would also add to stop eating before you are full and allow yourself 15 minutes wait. If still hungry eat a bit more. That trains you to let your brain register whether or not you really are hungry or not. Sometimes we fill our plate and eat at mealtimes without really thinking about whether or not we are truly experiencing hunger. A good habit to break, and on Atkins you will definitely find your hunger wans. Your first few days it is not unusual to eat a lot because your body is craving sugar and starch so eat liberally. After day 3 you will notice a marked difference.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

              Re: New here

Thanks for all the great info!!!

I have the atkins for life book but haven't looked in it yet. I think I have to get the other one everyone is talking about. I have read most of the material on the site and seen Kent's videos, which are great by the way!

I read that you are not suppose to drink Diet soda with caffine. Now, that ones going to be tough for me. That's my only source of energy right now. any substitutions for that? Or am I suppose to cut it out entirely? I also read somewhere that you can drink up to 3 per day but you have to count them toward your sugar points or something like that.

There is a lot of information out there and I am getting a little confused because some say one thing and others contradict it.

We follow the 2002 DANDR book only -- if you are getting confusing information it's because you are listening to another site that doesn't go by this edition.

As far as soda the best thing to do is go cold turkey -- I don't know where you read that you can drink 3 diet soda's a day because I have never seen that. We don't have "sugar points" -- we are allowed 3 sweeteners daily - Splenda is preferred - NOT aspartame which is in your Diet Soda. One of the only soda's I know of that doesn't have aspartame or caffeine and also has no sodium which can cause you to retain water is Diet Rite but remember, Induction is your time to break all food and drink additions. Caffeine is not allowed because it messes with your blood sugars - which makes it harder for your body to loose weight.

You say you have the book but haven't read it??? It is the 2002 edition or another one? At the bottom of my post is a picture of a red cover book - or there is this cover Amazon.com: Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution: Robert C. Atkins: Books. If you can't find one locally you can get one on www.half.com or www.amazon.com - mine was under $5.00 with shipping.

Hi Kim. I didn't know there was a 2003 edition. I think that one should be fine. I don't know why everyone is so adamant about the 2002 version. I only recommended it because I've seen it recommended so many times! lol Maybe someone else could elaborate.
