  • Not new to Atkins, but new to keeping myself accountable!

    Hello everyone,

Its great to find a board that is dedicated to the Atkins way of life. I've been a long, long time lurker. I know Atkins works because it worked for me, I just didn't keep myself accountable to it and now over the years have gained all the weight back and more.

But, for the first time, I am really serious about keeping myself accountable when I never have been before. Its not enough that I keep a private FitDay journal or just write down my carb intake, I needed to do something that helps me keep myself accountable. Deciding to join the forums and participate daily is the best thing I know of to keep me disappearing back into a lurker and getting off the low-carb train!

I've always been a chronic dieter and one of those dieters (I have a feeling I'm not the only one) who would start "next Monday." I now know Atkins is not a diet its a way of eating permanently, so I shouldn't treat it as such. Besides, I know how "starting on Monday" works for me. Monday never comes. So I am starting now.

I look forward to joining the discussions and hopefully losing a lot of weight (I've got quite a lot to lose!) along the way.

      Welcome to the board, Taksioi!

I'm glad you have decided to join us and am sure we can help to keep you accountable and on plan. Come here often and post any questions or problems you may have. Be sure to check out the Century Club for views from other people who have a lot to lose.
And maybe you could join a challenge or two. When you have to report in everyday, it's keeps you always thinking about it and working toward a small goal and those small goals add up to big results over time!

Don't look at how far you have to go, instead just take it one day at a time. Good luck to you!

Re: Not new to Atkins, but new to keeping myself accountable!

Hi Taksioi - welcome to ADBB. I’m one of the Spotlight Hostesses. Here is a little information I hope will help get you started. We follow the 2002 DANDR book it would be very beneficial to buy a copy so you know what you’re doing. (check www.half.com or www.amazon.com for a cheap copy - mine was under $5.00 with shipping).

*Before you start take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of induction - there are too many variables daily and hourly that can cause your weight to change, so weighing at the end of induction is what Dr. Atkins suggested.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily.
*Drink plenty of pure water (nothing added - see below for more info).
        *Take your supplements and exercise
*Stay away from the shakes and bars (they aren’t legal on induction) and any processed or chemically enhanced foods – we eat whole foods.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of this page – it’s a condensed version of the DANDR book. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

*** Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sugar free kool-aid & diet sodas do not count they are chemically enhanced and most include aspartame (also not allowed on Atkins) – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your daily water intake. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water

The recipe sites are a helpful way to make your meals more enjoyable – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
