  • oh my god.

here i am ready to lose fifty pounds or so and i am down 15 give or take the time of day and i am bored. bored with my diet and looking to cheat-i have become a master of rationalization...my inner monologue says things like, 'it is good to cheat here and there-you will prevent your body from getting used to ketosis' and 'have a few cocktails and some pasta this weekend, just don't go overboard.' i hate that i live for food. or that it makes me so very happy (short term, anyhow) anyways, i am trying to stay on extended induction to get a bulk of the weight out of the way. i came here to procrastinate (i have a quite large paper to write) and to find the inspiration to keep it together...and for some new food ideas. everyone here seems just lovely-i hope to become a helpful healthy part of this forum.

If you are bored - move up the rungs! You get way more food choices, while learning how to do this WOE for life. Many of us lose just as well on OWL as we did on extended induction.

it has only been 3 weeks or so and i am so scared that the weight loss will stall out...and to be honest, i don't even know what to add in to my diet. i can't find my book-but i guess i could look online. the recipes forum has some amazing suggestions that i would of NEVER thought to use-whipped egg whites cooked on a cookie sheet can be cut and cooled and used as BREAD? i am stoked and amazed!

Have you checked out Linda Sue's wonderful recipe site? The ones with the * are induction-friendly and there is a lot of variety and ideas.
Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

It is not unusual to experience a slight stall during the third or fourth week. Don't let it freak you out. You're going to be just fine. Your body will thank you for not cheating.

HI -- since you say you are bored and afraid of moving on because you're afraid your weight will stall out here is the link called "Introduction to OWL"...

When I stayed on extended induction I stopped loosing weight -- once I moved on to OWL and added 5 net carbs of veggies 3 times the first week my weight loss started again. I added green beans the first week. East 5 net carbs of your new veggie three different days the first week...if you don't have any trouble (gaining weight, etc.) then the next week you can eat that veggie as many times as you want to. Do the same with the next veggie....and so on -- you can stay on each rung as long as you want to, there is no rush to move up - but the knowledge that you CAN move on and add a new type of food (dairy for example) is wonderful.

Good luck -- I hope you decide to move up, that's what this WOE is all about!

              Re: oh my god.

Carole, I always get inspiration from your blog. I am a follower of the successful people who give the most expert advise. This site has taken over all of my thinking about how to treat myself with diet, exercise, challenges, etc.

It has given me the information as to why I should not give up but keep struggling to get to my goal. This has been so very difficult for me since my weight does not want to cooperate with the rest of my body. The positive thing is that I can see the sizes go down and my clothes get looser. I keep thinking that the fat must be going somewhere and someday it will show up on the scale.

Rung 2 could be the anwser but I am beginning to think I am not eating enought and need a cheat to push this ahead. Thank you for listening, I must be tired so I babble on and on. Nighty, night. Audrey

A cheat won't push you ahead - it will kick you out of ketosis Are you eating when you are hungry? If you are concerned about not eating enough due to appetite suppression, try putting your food into fitday to see how many calories you are consuming. While eating too little can put your body into starvation mode & screw up your metabolism, eating the wrong foods (cheating) won't solve that problem - it has to do with carbs as much as it does calories.

One question---when you switch rungs, do you add one new food at a time? That can help you identify which food(s) are slowing you down.

                    Re: oh my god.

Good suggestions, I am going to check my fitday and see what foods I have been eating that might have slowed me down. I am still going back and forth up and down 1-2 pounds although I stay within my range of 230. I do have heavy cream in my coffee and count it as cream. I am thinking of dropping the AM coffee. I only drink water all day and maybe one cup of tea. I cut back on my splenda and I do not cheat or vary from my diet. My fitday shows me to be in my %s. I measure and sometimes I don't eat a lot of anything. My calories vary from 1500 to 2000 a day.

                      Re: oh my god.

stick with it...I have added some nuts and some light wheat bread (6 grams each-2 slices a day), no stall, still losing between 3-4 pounds a week. What ever you do, you do not want to back track, its such a waste of precious "losing time". I really don't know what rung I would be considered on, but have had the bread consistently daily for the last 3 weeks, carbs daily about 35-40

Started this diet on Sun 4/26/09

50 lbs gone on Sun 9/27/09

Well its been over a year now and I am currently on maintenance and still trying to adjust to the "new" ME. No major struggles to report, just livin' day to day.

If you are really on Rung 1 light wheat bread and nuts are not allowed. Nuts are rung 3 -- bread well, that's out for quite awhile. You may be loosing weight but when it stops you'll be wondering why

You will not stop loosing when you go up the rungs if you do it slowly and the way the rungs are written. If you go from induction to adding corn yep you're gonna gain because that's too fast too soon....Rung 1 is 5 additional net carbs daily....you add 1 new veggies 3 times to a meal that week (monday, wednesday and friday) - if you don't have any trouble with that veggie then the next week you can eat it as often as you want and you add another new veggie. When you are happy with that you can move on to dairy and have a greek yogurt or 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, once again, 3 times a week the first week....your body will enjoy the new foods and you will continue to loose weight.

Once you get through the first 2 weeks of induction you aren't going to be loosing massive amounts of weight anyway -- you'll go to 1 maybe 2 pounds a week (another pound if you are lucky) but the big weight loss isn't going to happen - it won't on ANY diet!

Many of us (myself included) started loosing again once we went to OWL.
