  • Getting Ready to Start!

Hey guys! I have been on this site for under a week, some of you have seen me, answered alot of questions, and I am grateful!!

I have been doing research, since my book hasn't arrived yet... (Im actually getting it at the library today to hold me over until mine arrives)

I think I have enough of an idea to begin induction tomorrow!!

I havent dont a low carb diet since 2003, and i thought it was Atkins, but I was going off a friend and not the book, and boy was I wrong!! I dont think i EVER ate veggies! Eggs, and the occasional salad and chicken and tons and tons of shakes and bars.

I am hoping that since its been many years, that it will not affect my "induction" and i have read that you really can only "do" induction once for maximum weight loss.

Im very excited and cant wait to get even more involved on the board!!

    Thanks everyone!!

    Re: Getting Ready to Start!

Make sure you do a tough induction - don't eat anything that isn't on the acceptable food list -- don't cheat, you aren't cheating us you're cheating yourself...if you want to loose the weight you'll do the right thing.

I hope you library has the 2002 Edition of the DANDR (red or white cover) becauese that's the one we use here. The plan is based on science and clinical studies, not on what some people "think" is Atkins. The fact you didn't eat veggies is sad because that's a huge part of the eating plan. And the bars and shakes -- they are filled with non-induction products...they are marketed to make money, NOT to make you healthy.

If you haven't seen this information before here it is -- if you have seen it, I offer it as a refresher to help you get started. The stickies at the top of this page http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/ will help get you started until your book arrives. You'll find the acceptable food list on this site - print it off, take it with you, post it in your kitchen that way you have no excuse to say you didn't know!!

If you need help we're here to help you!!

*Before you start take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of induction - there are too many variables daily and hourly that can cause your weight to change, so weighing at the end of induction is what Dr. Atkins suggested.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily.
*Drink 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added ***– see below for more info).
    *Take your supplements and exercise
*Stay away from the shakes and bars (they aren’t legal on induction) and any processed or chemically enhanced foods – we eat whole foods.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
    Filtered water
    Mineral water
    Spring water
    Tap water

*** Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sugar free kool-aid & diet sodas do not count they are chemically enhanced and most include aspartame (also not allowed on Atkins) – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your daily water intake. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water

The recipe sites are a helpful way to make your meals more enjoyable – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

      Re: Getting Ready to Start!

Yea, its amazing how off my diet was then!

Right now, I planned my week out in advance otherwise I will struggle.
Im gonna do eggs for breakfast, or a chicken salad with baked chicken, 1/2 stalk of celery and1 teaspoon of Dukes Mayo and chopped egg

Lunch is gonna typically be a grilled chicken salad, 1 cup of lettuce, 1/2 cuke 1/2 peppers (i tend to eat salad alot now anyway, im just limiting myself now to the amount of veggies) 1 oz cheddar cheese crumbles, 1 cut up egg and 1 cup of sugar and nitrate free bacon. Im gonna mix some low sugar dijon mustart (like 1 tablespoon) with some ACV and use that over the course of two days as a dressing.

Dinner Im gonna have some chicken, or a hamburger no bun, etc, with 1 cup of veggies... and of course a ton of water through out the day.

If you have any suggestions on how i can make it a cleaner induction please let me know. I really want to maximize my results and clean out my body of my sugar and soda addictions.

      Thanks!!

Are you using Fitday to track your daily carb intake? Make sure you deduct the fiber from your foods so you know what you net carbs are.
