  • One week in and a little bummed!

My husband and I started the diet about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Things were going ok, but I was having a hard time eating in the morning and thought that eating the atkins bars would be a good idea for me. My husband said that he wasn't going to eat them, but that it would be better for me to eat that than end up skipping a meal (which is a 25+ year pattern that I am trying to break). I started doing more research on the bars and it seems like they may really hinder my weight loss during induction, exactly the opposite result I want/need to see. So I am going to move off the bars and eat real food. I will have to spend some more time on the boards to find some good breakfast options besides eggs in the morning...I just can't choke them down right now.

    Hi

You will find you do better if you stay away from the Atkins bars, they do stall alot of peoples weight loss. What sort of things do you eat for lunch? you could have some thing similar for breakfast too.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of the induction page - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html – it’s a condensed version of everything you’ll need to know. It’s a good idea to get a copy of the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) the book we use for reference on this site.

You don't have to eat eggs for breakfast, any leftovers will do -- take some deli sliced meat rolled up with cream cheese and eat that on the run. Induction is the time to retrain your brain and your body that the "old ways" don't work and you need to shake things up.

Stay away from the bars and shakes they aren't allowed until later in the plan. f something isn't on the list it doesn't go in your mouth! NO EXCEPTIONS!

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with. Remember – if a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list it doesn’t belong in your mouth – no exceptions!

Yea, those Atkins bars are garbage. It's unfortunate that the Atkins name isn't quite what we think it is....or what it used to be. Thankfully we have ADBB I make some yummy cheesecake 'muffins' or sausage 'muffins' and they are deeeeelish. LOL If you'd like the recipes, I'd be happy to share them with you.

Carole, you really should put all that info in your signature and tell folks to refer to your siggy!! Lots of helpful info! Thanks for being so helpful!!!!

          Welcome!
I agree that you need to stay away from bars and shakes, particularly in the early stages of the plan. Stick to whole and fresh foods. You have to get used to thinking outside the "trad breakfast" thing. Leftover meats, cheese, a few olives, avocado... all good if you don't like eggs.

Re: One week in and a little bummed!

                here's the one I have -- it's delicious:

                Cream Cheese Muffins

2 8oz. pks. philadelphia cream cheese
1/2 cup sweetener (I use spenda)
                2 eggs
                1/2 tsp. vanilla

                sprinkle with cinnamon before baking

Soften cream cheese about 40 seconds in microwave. Add other ingredients. Beat with mixer till smooth. Pour into 12 muffin pans lined with the papers. Bake at 350 for 20 min

                2 carbs per muffin

Soften the cream cheese for about 40 seconds in microwave. Add the other ingredients. Beat with mixer till smooth. Pour into 12 muffin pans lined with foil cups...they seem to not stick that way.
Bake at 350 for 20-25 min. They will rise and the tops will cave back in but that's normal. I personally don't like them warm, so I let them sit overnight in the fridge. They are SO yummy.

Re: One week in and a little bummed!

Found it! I LOVE these b/c you can add veggies to them, try different cheeses...whatever you want! I've even fiddled with the seasonings and spices to make some interesting flavors! Pretty customizable I will give you guys the basic recipe and you can tailor it to your tastes.

                    1lb roll sausage
                    12 eggs
                    8oz cheese of your choice
                    salt & pepper to taste
                    veggie of your choice (optional)

Grease muffin tin and preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Brown the sausage as you would ground beef. Drain. Divide the sausage evenly in the tins. Add your cheese.
In a large bowl, mix up your dozen eggs, then pour them into the tins on top of the sausage and cheese.
Back for roughly 35 minutes on 350.
Again, these will puff up and then deflate a little, completely normal

**I go this recipe from Linda's Low Carb Website**

Yeah, when I first started Atkins, I thought that those shakes and bars were ok because the package stated *Induction Friendly* GRRRR only to find out half the stuff was a no no. I submitted a complaint about it, but I gurantee it will fall on deaf ears. It's all about the MONEY!!

I'm a Spotlight Hostess, was ask to help welcome new members by the moderators. That's why I tell the new members the same thing over and over and over.....I try to get as much information out to each of them in my first post to them as I possibly can so they hopefully will read the links, look at the recipe sites and the acceptable food list so they eat the correct foods and don't make the mistakes so many people do because they "think" they know how to do Atkins because a friend or their mom told them how......

Hopefully some of the new members take the advise and it makes their inductions easier.

i find that i don't have a lot of time in the morning either, ditto for actually taking the time to make stuff ahead of time. what i like to grab is a couple of fully cooked, frozen sausage patties and stick them in the microwave for 2 min. they will usually hold me till lunch time...not bad!
