  • Decided today to finally make a change

HI. I am 18 years old, Male and have been overweight for years now.
I am 5'9 and 178lbs. This is my heaviest weight but is quite steady as I have been here for the last 6 months or so.

I decided that I would start a new lifestyle. I am starting on Saturday 18th (tomorrow) I decided on Atkins because it suits my dietary taste and I know people who have done very well on it.

As of now I have not got the book although I have it ordered from internet and it should arrive in a matter of days. I understand the basics of the diet and the foods I can and cannot eat in induction. My goal weight is 145lbs but I will be delighted when I reach 155-160 as there is a lot of difference in 20lbs of fat for a person of my size. I also aim to reduce my circumferences which increased quite a bit in the last 2 years.

My motivation is the blossoming of some potential . The first adult(ish) relationship I would have. I just want to look my best, which I never have so far. I want to see what I look like as a slim adult.

I look forward to being part of the chain of advice and companionship that you all share and hope we can all inspire each other to reach our goals.

    Thanks for listening

Edit: I should also note that I have been on here the last few days reading and reading so I believe I am ready to tackle the induction despite not yet having the book.

You will succeed because you truly have an advantage: you're very young! Man, all you have to do is just think about exercising and your anterior pituitary will give off a gallon of growth hormone. Welcome to the board and I hope your relationship blossoms.

        Thanks
It is a rather exiting prospect for me. I am humbled by the fact that my goal pales in comparison to some of yours. Seeing the amazing losses you have all made inspire me to lose some myself.
I am going to modify my signature now and I am thinking of joining these water challenge etc things. I will need to see what they are first

I always envy men starting Atkins. In my years here, they always seem to have great success as long as they follow DANDR 2002 and stick to the plan as written. I look forward to hearing of your progress. Love can be a great motivator at your age. Best wishes.

Re: Decided today to finally make a change

            Hi and welcome to ADBB.

I'm glad you've ordered a copy of the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). Until you can get a copy of the book check the stickies (information posts) at the top of the induction page - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html – it’s a condensed version of everything you’ll need to know. Even through the stickies are a good start they don’t detail the entire program, so that’s why we suggest you have the book to follow. The plan works if you follow it the way it is written and don’t try to do it “your way” – obviously “your way” doesn’t work or you wouldn’t be here.

Your weight loss is up to you -- don't compare yourself to others, no one has the same body you do -- if you follow the plan the way it's written you will be as successful as possible.

The Atkins shakes and bars are not legal on induction – there are non-induction ingredients in them and they are not listed on the acceptable food list. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list it doesn’t belong in your mouth – no exceptions!

            Before you start:
*take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of your 2 week induction.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily – www.fitday.com will help you keep track of this.
*Drink 64 ounces of pure water -nothing added daily (Legal water is considered Filtered water, Mineral water, Spring water and Tap water).
*Take your supplements and start an exercise routine today.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Join some of the challenges to help keep you motivated -- journal your thoughts, post often and help anyone along the way you can (as long as your advise is correct!! LOL). If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.

Re: Decided today to finally make a change

Book arrived early this morning and I had a read before work. I decided I had to go have a shop and clear out of junk food before I start. I have now got a variety of the recommended foods so I can start properly instead of beginning with what I had.
I have now distanced myself from the carby foods so after today I can avoid them easier. I feel more prepared now and am fully set for starting. Biggest problem will be that the people I live with are terrible eaters. 90% of what they buy is stuff that I need to avoid the most.

Tonight I am making the most of my last day of bad diet by having my favourite junk food. I won't tell you what you because you will shout at me

So you live by yourself and do your own cooking? That will help. Good luck on cutting down on those carbs and getting some pounds moving.
Don't forget to include some activities as well.

Re: Decided today to finally make a change

Eat all the junk before you start or throw out what's left....if it isn't within your eyesight you'll be able to get over the cravings much easier!

Check those recipe sites I sent you -- you can cut the recipes in half if you want so you don't have so much -- or make the full amount and freeze and eat the other when you don't want to cook or can take them to work for lunches.

                  GOod luck

Re: Decided today to finally make a change

I live with other people. I have gotten rid of the junk food of mines and given it to others. Its when we cook(they cook) a big meal or buy lots of cakes etc to share that I am most likely to be tempted. I have no junk food snacks in my own stash now which will be a great help.

I have been reading those recipes. I am grateful for them as they should allow me to keep what I am eating varied to prevent boredom!

Once you've been on the plan a few days your cravings will subside and the fact that there are cakes, etc in the house won't bother you. I cook for my husband and mother everynight. We normally have the same meat but they have their "goodies" and I have my veggies. It doesn't bother me a bit to sit between them and pass the food they are eating back and forth - I honestly don't want the stuff they eat. Good luck again!!
