  • Newbie...very soon!

Hi..my name is Cori and I am new to Atkins. I bought the book and read most of it and now I am trying to get a grocery list together for induction (Is there any such thing on here? it would be so helpful). I have tried every diet possible out there, and have succeeded at some, but always gained it back after swearing I wouldn't. I dont' even want to post my weight on here right now, as it disgusts me. I am excited to try this new way of life, but also very nervous and a little overwhelmed over it, since I am not a good cook. I don't know how I'm going to cook all the meats, espcially since I can't get them from the deli! (or can i? confused about that part).

A little about myself..I am a special education middle school teacher, I have a 5 year old daughter named Ava, and a great husband named Patrick , who was in Afghanistan for a year a half and returned last summer.

I want more energy..right now, I don't have much at all, and I'm only 35 years old, and feel much older. I want to have another baby, but am putting it on hold until I get some weight off. I am afraid of getting diabetes and having other health related problems if I don't. I am also at my heaviest weight and even my big clothes are fitting right. I've pretty much had it and hope I can do this.

Thank you for your help..any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the board, Cori!

For food lists, check the Induction forum and also the Food and Recipe forum. There used to be a list of induction foods but I couldn't find the one I was looking for.

So, read all you can on here, drink your water (very important), get some kind of exercise, maybe join a challenge or 2, and keep that book handy because it's the final word on anything Atkins!

    Good luck to you!

Welcome. Nice to have you here.
Deli is not great as it can be very sugary stuff.
You have to venture a bit into cooking here probably. But don't fret about it. I am sure there is a cook inside of you. You just have not given it a chance to come out. Start simple and work you way gradually. We all started somewhere.
Hope shopping went great. I just copied out the allowed list of veggies and then new that all proteins were good and that was it.

        Hi and welcome to ADBB.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of the induction page - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html – it’s a condensed version of everything you’ll need to know. Even through the stickies are a good start they don’t detail the entire program, so that’s why I'm glad you have the book to follow. The plan works if you follow it the way it is written and don’t try to do it “your way” – obviously “your way” doesn’t work or you wouldn’t be here. This isn't a quick fix diet -- it has to be a way of eating for life for you to keep the weight off. Once you start eating the foods you'll feel so much better you really won't want to go back to eating the carby crud you were eating before!

        Before you start:
*take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of your 2 week induction.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily – www.fitday.com will help you keep track of this.
*Drink 64 ounces of pure water -nothing added daily (Legal water is considered Filtered water, Mineral water, Spring water and Tap water).
*Take your supplements and start an exercise routine today.

The Atkins shakes and bars are not legal on induction – there are non-induction ingredients in them and they are not listed on the acceptable food list. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list it doesn’t belong in your mouth – no exceptions!

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

In the initial stage, Atkins is a very strict diet. It is, however, also a very easy one, so long as you stay within its parameters. It later gets less strict, but remains easy. I found the the first two days hard (I had less energy, I bloated, I had sugar cravings) but then something miraculous happened. I had so much more energy, I started exercising for the first time in years, and I haven't looked back.

Please remember that while weighing is of course important, you really should take measurements too. With so much water going into your system, the scales may show gains some days but if you take you measurements you'll see that it is just water retention.
