  • Stalling from day one!

    Hi!

I've been on induction for over a month now and lost just 4lbs so joined in hope of finding some stories that start like this and end with proper weight loss! All I can find are people talking about stalls after losing some weight, not starting out in one! I have the ketosis, even had induction flu for a few days.
I can't work out what is causing this slow loss (no inches either), no sweeteners, no hidden carbs, no atkins products (in UK so not exactly around to buy anyway), cheese only about once week, only possible thing I can see is I struggle to eat enough calories. I just can't eat when not hungry though.
I am hypothyroid (it's being treated) and have bowel disease (which should make me lose weight but sadly doesn't).
I really needed a diet with good results to try and get my willpower to work! Without results the urge to eat what I like might win soon.

We need a little more information in order to see what is going wrong. We need to know how much you need to lose total, how much you weighed to start, how tall you are, gender and age and last--how much exercise you do. We can't give any advice until we know all these factors.

Knowing you are hypothyroid and probably eat too little is a start.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

        Re: Stalling from day one!

        Hi Liv and SunnySmile!

I'm Tracy, 30 and have 3 sons (after having my last son I went hyper thyroid, lost loads of weight by accident, then swung the other way and went hypo. I just want to lose what being hypo made me gain).
I was 152 pounds, now 148 and want to be about 126 pound ( that's when I feel right, I've never been so big in my life and it's just making me miserable), I'm 5ft 6.
Only meds I'm on are levothyroxine, which should help weightloss not hinder it.

First couple of weeks, other than lots of walking as I don't drive, I didn't have energy for exercise, I'm now managing 10 minutes on cross trainer but finding muscles tire so so quickly now.

As for my menu yesterday -
boiled egg and mixed salad leaves for breakfast
a roast chicken leg and more salad leaves (rocket, spinach etc)
chicken and veg curry (cauliflower and green beans with a tomatoey sauce)
        half slice of ham.

        today so far
        2 bacon slices, one egg
        prawns and salad leaves
cup of tea with a dribble of goats milk
for dinner I'm having salmon fillet and a roast vegetable medley (peppers, courgettes and toms, apparently 7.9 carbs per 100g)

according to fit day I do about 900 calories a day, but I can't eat anymore, not with either going over my carbs or feeling sick from too much protein!

          Hi Lady
You cannot expect do lose if you do Atkins and low calories at the same time.
You are not doing Atkins properly. We would eat a lot more than that and a lot more fat. It actually helps to eat when we this diet. You are seriosly starving your body. This will not work.
If you feel sick from protein can you add fat. If either does not appeal to you, you may think about whether this diet is for you. It is high fat, moderate protien and low carb.

I'm not deliberately doing low calories, in fact I'm sure I eat more now than when not on a diet! Just how do you eat more fat? Without bread or potatoes to stick butter on etc I'm a bit lost as to how you do that. Plus when I feel fat it feels weird to eat too much!
My fit day overview says I'm doing 57% fat and 36% protein.

              Re: Stalling from day one!

I think your percentage is not that bad for fat to protein. We aim more for about 65 to 30. But the low calories are a bit problematic. Your needs are higher than that and you will over time make your body "cannibalize" your own muscles and lower your own metabolism as a result.
Just a bit of oil or butter here and there will make a difference. So dressing with your vegetables, sauteed veggies in oil, mayo dip here and there. Butter with your prawns.
Have you measured inches? How are you doing on the size front?

                Re: Stalling from day one!

Strange as it may initially seem, you definitely need more calories.

Also, I fear that your body may have adjusted to your truly starvation diet. Hence, if you bump up your calories, you may gain weight for a few days. Nothing massive, but don't be surprised. Thereafter, you should lose normally.

The easiest way to do that with your sample menu would be to put some fat - olive oil is my preferred, but butter is OK - in your lunch or dinner menus.

Yeah it does seem really odd, I'll give that ago...hopefully won't get carried away with mayo. Bit addicted to that stuff.

I've been measuring all the usual places, half an inch from the hips and one of my dresses is easier to do up but that's about it. Just losing a clothes size would make me happy!

Coconut oil is tasty and will return some of your energy. Do a forum search on it any you may turn up some ideas on how to use it in your daily diet. You really do need more calories to regain your energy and keep your body happy.

I have been wondering about the coconut oil stuff, what do you do just eat spoonfuls of it? How do you know the one you buy is good stuff?

I am seriously getting annoyed now, nearly 7 weeks and only 5lbs. So fed up of going without!

Maybe I need to do more exercise but I just can't do anymore. My muscles just give up.

Do you think this fat fast thing might work?

Did you up your calories at all? I would try that before doing anything else.
I use coconut oil once in awhile - sometimes I sautee veggies in it. Look for an extra virgin one. Do you like coconut? I do not 'eat' the oil. I have not problems adding fat to my diet. Mine is very high fat as it is. Some people do add some oil in their tea or just eat it.

                          Re: Stalling from day one!

Not quite, I just can't work it out. I've really lost my appetite and when I'm trying to lose weight it feels wrong to go against my hunger signals by eating when not hungry. But I try and feel ill.
I am eating lots of fat though. Fitday says I'm averaging 56% now. I'm not quite eating the 20 carbs either. I'm weeing lots though!

                            Fat should be 65%
                            Are you in ketosis?

Well my breath stinks so I assume so! Where does all the fat come from? I have tried duck a few times because it's fattier and adding mayo. But as I read cheese is bad I've avoided that. I love guacomole so I've had some of that with a kind of low carb chilli (no beans).
I notice heavy cream is mentioned alot (is this like double cream in the uk?) what do you eat it with if you can't have fruit?

I'm basically just eating eggs, meat, leafy salad and veg. Occasional cup of tea with goats milk and water.
