  • I am very happy to be here.

    Hi everyone.

I wanted to let everyone know how happy I am to have found this forum. I have decided to begin the Atkins Diet in the morning and was looking for a place to ask questions and be a part of a support group and it looks as if I have found such a place.

    Hi Corrine. Welcome to ADBB!

So I imagine you weighed yourself this morning, right? Everyone does that, after all. But don't forget to take measurements too, to see how fat (not water, for example) disappears from your body.

What are you using to track your foods? Are you doing it on paper or online using stuff like FitDay? In any case, remember to keep your fat intake up---many people start Atkins thinking it is a high protein diet, and this often messes up their weight loss. Probably you already read this in the sticky threads around here, but the Induction phase is about 65% fat, 5% carbohydrates and 30% protein. And if something is not on the acceptable foods list (e.g. Atkins bars, sugar free candies), it should not cross your lips.

Post often, join some challenges and enjoy your time on the Board.

Re: I am very happy to be here.

Yes I weighed this morning. I am currently at 185lbs with a goal of losing 20 more pounds.

I stopped smoking this past February after 31 years of that awful habit and found that I was also overweight. This past March I began dieting and exercising and went from 210 to 190 lbs fairly easily. Then I hit a month and a half stall before losing 5 more pounds. Now it's been about 2 months since I have lost any more. BTW I am 6 ft tall and 47 yrs old.

So, after becoming totally frustrated I have decided to give the Atkins Diet a try for the last 20lbs.

I exercise 3-4 times a week with at least 45 mins of Cardio (Ellliptical and Stationary Bike) and a weight routine along with bands and a balance ball.

I have spent the last few hours online reading about Atkins and made a list which I took to the grocery store as the food I had on hand was more about being low calorie than being low carb.

I am not sure how the fact that I am going straight from a low calorie diet to a low carb diet might affect the induction process and would appreciate any input on that.

I am happy to have found this forum...more than I can relate to you,

Re: I am very happy to be here.

        Hi welcome.
Sounds like you are very dedicated.
The last some pounds can be stubborn - no matter what diet you are on and their is no magic to be had anywhere.
I don't know what will happen as you walk over. Sometimes if you have been starving your body you may see a small tendency for the body to hang on to the weight at first as it is not sure that you actually are going to feed it regularly from now on. But once it catches on it should be OK
Good luck. I look forward to hearing how it goies.

          Congrats for giving up smoking!

And good for you for planning and being so organized---many people would not have taken a list when going grocery shopping.

Re: I am very happy to be here.

Welcome and congratulations on how far you've come this far. Here are a couple things that will help you on your journey:

It’s a good idea to get a copy of the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) the book we use for reference on this site. Post often, ask questions join some of the challenges - the more you use the forum the more you'll get out of it.

*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily – www.fitday.com will help you keep track of this.
*Drink 64 ounces of pure water -nothing added daily (Legal water is considered Filtered water, Mineral water, Spring water and Tap water).
*Take your supplements and start an exercise routine today.

The Atkins shakes and bars are not legal on induction – there are non-induction ingredients in them and they are not listed on the acceptable food list. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list it doesn’t belong in your mouth – no exceptions!

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
