I'm a graphic designer/illustrator who is always sitting, so I've been gaining weight since college. I was a chubby kid too.
After college, however, I first started dropping sweets, and sodas, which did nothing. For years I was pretty much starving myself and exercising like crazy. After two years of that, I had plateaued at 175. On a 5'2 frame. The gym got to be boring (and crowded) so I stopped.
Two years later I had gained it all back and then some. I can tell muscle mass has mostly stayed, but all in all I was at 230 pounds. Felt fine, but did not like looking in the mirror.
I started Atkins after a depressing month of eating the usual kind of "well-balanced" meals while working out intensely. I had lost no weight at all on that plan of 1,500 calories a day plus over an hour of work-outs every afternoon.
A month of induction later I have lost ten pounds and 2.5 inches off my waist!
Atkins is helping me feel great. And I look forward to continuing onto my weight goals of around 140. My family tends to be stocky in a muscular way, so I don't expect to get much smaller.
